Just fyi for those saying that Auburn vs Alabama has clearly been the better rivalry due to having better records since X year:

Winning % of teams since 1980

3rd - Ohio State - .765
8th - Michigan - .710
11th - Alabama - .702
14th - Auburn - .681

Winning % of teams since 1990

1st - Ohio State - .790
8th - Alabama - .696
9th - Michigan - .695
19th - Auburn - .663

Winning % of teams since 2000

2nd - Ohio State - .813
12th - Alabama - .696
17th - Auburn - .695
22nd - Michigan - .650

Winning % of teams since 2010

Ohio State-Michigan is a rivalry that, while historic, has largely been propped up by the persistent Big Ten bias that has existed in college football for the last 60 years or so. Before the days of ESPN and cable television, the four big networks were the only options for Americans to watch college football.

Ohio State-Michigan was always on television because that game would ALWAYS decide which one of them was going to win the conference and go to the Rose Bowl. And for years the Rose Bowl was hyped up to be the biggest bowl game of the post-season. So of course Ohio State-Michigan became "the Game" for the media.

I would argue that over the last 20 years or so, the Iron Bowl has grown and eclipsed the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry due to the fact that Alabama and Auburn have both been consistently in the SEC title picture (especially over the last decade).

Michigan hasn't won the conference since 2004. That's definitely hurt the rivalry. Plus the fact that Ohio State is 14-2 in the last 16 games.

I think Harbaugh will win a few games against Ohio State soon, and ratchet the rivalry back up a few more notches.

The 90s and 2000s were a good era, as was the 10 years war obviously with Woody and Bo.

No way the SEC benefitted from anything like this...

Coaches get fired for not beating OSU or Michigan. Gus is 1-4 against bama
He also won a NC in 2010, and ALMOST won another in 2013.

He bought himself some time. And even still, he isn’t viewed as 100% the long term answer. Probably because he hasn’t been beating Alabama.

Gus won a NC in 10? Wait so now he gets credit for that?

The Game has had an impact on the Big Ten championship 49 times in its history.
Alabama and Auburn have combined for 34 SEC Championships.

The IB winner has lost the SECCG a few times.

That’s a healthy amount of impact. I’m sure OSU and Michigan’s version of The Game has been played more times than the Iron Bowl as well.

If you’re comfortable with giving Gene the credit, you go for it

Is this supposed to be a counter argument that the Iron Bowl is more meaningful?

Dude you’re making my point. Those are the same 5 teams I named and gave year references for. That’s 12 titles and almost half are bama (5) and 3 are Florida. So 8/12 are from 2 teams.
Jesus fricking Christ

Let’s go ahead and compare that to every other conferences.

We’ve already established that the SEC has almost double the amount of teams with championships in this span than the BIG 10 has total championships.

What conference is next?

You mean when the SEC champion was slapping fools around in the NC?

How’d many NCs does the Big 10 have since 1990?

You’re going to have to explain why you laugh every time someone mentions a national championship
