Really, Can you please elaborate?

ESPN has lost an estimated 14 millions subscribers since the playoff contract was signed in 2012. Those 14 million lost users generated around $1.44 billion per year for the "worldwide leader in sports," which is still saddled with the severe costs of sports licensing contracts the company struck while it was busy not seeing the massive locomotive of market change bearing down upon it.

shite is bad enough on this board, but the amount it's discussed on the Rant is infuriating. Who would have imagined beating Alabama would lead to a rash of insecurity?

They would be meeting the next day to plan the 8 team playoff if things went crazy and you ended up with a final four that included:

Minnesota (Big 10 Champ)
Baylor (Big 12 Champ)
Utah (Pac 12 Champ)

Wow thank you weadjust I wasn’t aware of any of that. I thought espn was killing it money wise.

I'm not sure why everybody is under the impression Alabama is some all powerful entity. It's not even that big of a school in terms of alumni and revenue. There's far more anti-Bama sentiment out there than pro at this point.

People always make the bogeyman out to be more powerful than he is. It's hilarious.

when a 2 loss bama gets in over several better 1 loss teams that played tougher opponents

it will be amusing to hear the excuses as to why bama should be above other teams with better records and better wins

Why do people dream up these bizarre fantasy scenarios to get outraged about?

There have been 5 playoffs, Alabama has been the SEC champion 4 times when getting in, 13-0 or 12-1 each time.

Only once has Alabama gotten in while on the bubble and it was 11-1 Bama vs 12-2 Ohio State and the 31 point loss to Iowa was the difference.

But somehow we have all these people rambling this insane narrative that Alabama is a perennial bubble team that clearly should be left out but always gets in, like that's the norm. When in reality that has never happened, or only KIND OF happened maybe once but also not really.

system where all 5 power conference champions guaranteed a spot is inevitable.

no it isnt.

3 loss division winner beats undefeated winner of other division.

No, they dont deserve it.
Northwestern or washington state or miami the u can be rose bowl millionaires.

I don't think they deserve it either but politics are in play and ensuring all the conferences get a spot will likely be necessary to keep everyone on board pacified.

ESPN relies on cable subscriptions. Cable is proving that it will ultimately just be a fad as more and more individual entities just allow individual subscriptiosn. So tons of people who didn't really care about sports still usually were paying for ESPN in their cable bundle. Not anymore.

The only way expansion is warranted is if all 5 power conferences have an undefeated team. That is what the CFP was meant to solve, that’s what we were complaining about. The issue with the BCS wasn’t that teams that lost a regular season game weren’t getting a shot at the title, it was that undefeated teams were being left out.

We can keep expanding this problem infinitely (what if the 17th best team is really the 16th best team?).

You think it's bad now. Could you imagine the shite show if ND was either undefeated or just had the one loss to #4 UGA?

8 teams
5 P5 champions
3 at large (1 highest ranked G5)

1st rd the week after conference championships.

This isn't hard to do.

I don’t think each conference champion should be a lock to get one of the 8 spots. Should be top 8 teams IMO. Not all conferences are equal.

This is the format I see lobbied for the most. Some argue for 6 but I think we could all live with 8 and this format. Don't really see an appetite for expansion beyond 8.

Why can't we just have this and be done with it?

By doing it that way you put huge emphasis on winning the conference. Makes a ton of games really matter in the national scene. Right now I can only think of a couple big games left outside if CCG. Make winning the conference the ticket to the playoffs and I can think of dozens of huge matchups left.
