Golf clubs are much more forgiving, so are golf balls. Add the advanced tech like track man, game is much easier than it was even 20 years ago. Shrink the driver heads back to late 90s standards, go back to balata balls, scores would go way up and golf wouldn’t be a long drive contest

Times are changing back to having one. It’s creeped back into the ECHL, it’s a thing in the SPHL. It’s not long before you see it back into the AHL widespread, and eventually NHL (eg, Rempe).

While the size of pads changed, the construction and technology used in them is much better and lighter.

Goals are still down from the 70s, high tide in the 80s, and even the early 90s.

The two line offside pass rule was stupid and made games a grind in the neutral zone.

It would definitely be interesting to see what these goalies could do without a trapezoid, but guys get it in deep so quickly, I'm not sure it would change much.

Baseball has the idiotic universal DH, wild cards, ghost runners, ban on shifts, and assclown Manfred wants a golden at bat.

Hockey hasn't changed as much. The overtime rules are dumb. Regular games would be recognizable to fans from 50 years ago.

Golf,

No way. Potentially has changed the most of any sport that would be in a conversation like this.

The game the pros play now is almost a different sport than what Nicklaus, Seve, Watson, Palmer, etc. played.

The technology (especially the technology), the fitness, the caliber of athletes, course design, the coaching, and so forth…all wildly different than in the days of yore.

Much of it thanks to a guy who liked to wear red on Sundays.

Valid point. I wasn’t really thinking of that angle. But fundamentally, I would argue that it is very much the same game. The swing, the mental aspect, and many other aspects haven’t changed much in 50 years. 25 year old Nicklaus would be dominant today.

Yes it has. I’d argue golf may be the most different than 20 years ago.

Hockey to me is the most the same. There’s been some tweaks to influence the style and speed but the same skills are still rewarded in relatively the same manner. That’s certainly not the case in golf

I’d go with MLB.

Hockey overtime rules changed significantly back in 2006-2007 IIRC.

Track & Field has added only the mixed relay event, which is pretty goofy but I'll accept it since LSU got a medal out of it.

The super shoes in distance races are a real life cheat code that have made times drop like crazy for everyone.
