volunteers earning $50
The ref working the clock gets $50. The guys on the field are making between $100-200 per game.

You see the amount of calls that are missed in the NFL and that includes replay
What the NFL does, especially with replay, isn't a "miss". There's a reason refs aren't "accountable" to the public in major sports.
People forget this is entertainment. Period.
As for HS, a lot of it can be written off to just being terrible refs.

People need to realize that the refs on field aren’t making decisions on what to replay

One of the best things about hs football is listening to fans scream at refs because they don't know the difference between hs rules and college rules. Particularly automatic first downs, which are much rarer in hs for whatever reason. I've seen a lot of melts because a team wasn't given an automatic first down.

Otis Cooper is dead?
He played at Slidell not Bogalusa.

And?
They are volunteers. They likely suck because the training sucks and they don’t have the time to be much better.

Otis Cooper from PHS. Was a FB/RB and kicker.
Thought you talking about the Bogalusa game where they “stole” Otis’ shoe and he couldn’t kick a last second game winning FG.

Sometimes it just looks like they plain aren't paying attention to what they are supposed to be paying attention to. Makes me wonder if they are slow processors, or just get bored or what. Other times, I'm quite certain some of the crews either don't know a rule, or just plain can't interpret it properly. I'm sure they make a pittance being out there and it can be frustrating as hell for coaches, players and people in the stands. I'm sure there is no solution and hope it all comes out in the wash.

Very few if any. The more likely scenario is that they suck at their job.

Not sure they need to be paid off in some cases.
Having Doug Williams’ brother call games at Doug Williams Field at Northeast HS fricking sucked.

25 flags on one team
If you can do better stripe up.
been around HS football a loooooong time 95% of the officials out there are there because they love the game. I have never heard of an even remotely legit claim of officials being paid off.

but the best is when the same people that gripe about college players DQ'ng themselves for targeting, gripe about HS players not DQ'ng for targeting.

Of course. You know that the fan boys know our jobs far better than we do. They watch football on TV on Saturday and Sunday.
Usually the ones who talk the loudest are the biggest pussies and would never even consider stepping under the lights.

PREACH!
I've been a high school official a combined 35 years(20 baseball; 15 football) and this is 100% spot-on. The ignorant are always the loudest.
