Traditionally, the ideal quarterback has been perceived as someone between 6'2" and 6'5" tall. He had remarkable poise in the pocket, effortlessly making precise throws on 15 to 12-yard comeback routes from the opposite or far hash. Speed was not a big measure of effectiveness; even those who don’t hit under 4.7 seconds in the 40-yard dash can excel. Then the Elway, Vick, and Luck unicorns showed up and changed the perception.

What is your definition of the prototypical QB?

I mean there is a bare minimum arm-strength and size necessary but not even close to the most important after those thresholds are met. Processing speed is the answer. The game looks slower to the best QBs. Chaos ensuing all around but elite composure. Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson and Allen look like they're playing a different game than everyone else. Daniels has the same traits so he will likely be the next to elevate.

A dual threat Qb who's primary skill is being able to scan the field and make accurate throws, but has the ability to scramble or use his legs to maintain or steal a possession.

Joe Burrow
Pat Mahomes
Lamar Jackson
Tua Tagavailoa
Justin Herbert
Josh Allen
Jalen Hurts
Baker Mayfield

All of them do it. The days of just being a surgical passer are over

Well the best teams don’t look for a Prototypical QB to solve their problems schematically these days, they instead build their team and roster around the QBs strengths and abilities to put them in the best position to succeed, through talent acquisition, cap and money management, and other areas of support off the field

Peyton Manning would be the prototype in any era... the game has missed him since he retired

Wonder how mobile, athletic guys who were also really good throwing the ball would do in today's NFL.

Staubach
Montana
Cunningham
Young
Elway

Young had to be taught and convinced to slide, because he'd just try to run through tackles.

I don't know if he's "ideal prototypical", but Jalen Hurts has been damn impressive in the current NFL.

Two SB appearances in four seasons as a starter. One ring. One SB MVP.

In 9 postseason games, 10 TD passes and 10 TD runs vs. 3 INTs, 66.8 completion percentage.

If you’re talking physical aspects only it’s guys like Allen, Mahomes, Herbert, Stroud

Today it’s just running backs who can throw. I wish they would make a rule to bring back actual QBs.

You just name 4 QB's with different builds.

This would happen if they just let defenses hit again. It’s not like coaches were too dumb to play a scrambler until the 2010s. Scrambling QBs simply could not survive the grind when the game was more violent.

The thing Mahomes does where he fakes like he’s going out of bounds would not have worked.

Not really, all fall into the standard prototype build and have the prototype skill sets.

Physically?

Herbert and Allen could have played TE.

Mahomes and Stroud aren't nearly that tall or big.

Did you read the OP? He’s correct, prototype QBs are 6-2 to 6-5 which the QBs I named are.
