Difference between those two is it seems the XFL may have a handshake agreement with the NFL for talent

The only problem with both the USFL and the XFL is talent. Both leagues have set themselves up as extensions of the NFL practice squad. There’s no “stealing” of talent from the NFL, so they figure they will help the NFL develop their scraps.

I think these leagues need to focus on players in the 18-24 year old range. Steal the talent from college, instead. Sure, some college players make good money with NIL deals at big schools, but not all. There are plenty of players stuck in the transfer portal or not interested in school who want to play. So go get them.

Bottom line: there is no unique talent angle for either league. The rules and the game system they have are great. But it all comes down to players. The original USFL was the most successful spring league because they didn’t give a shite about what the NFL wanted. The USFL/XFL needs to do the same with college ball.

And yes, I know about the three years out of high school player safety thing. Instead of limiting the younger players, I say age out the older ones.

Big fan personally. It’s basically a mix of NFL and college but with a few new rules added

It’s solid football in a pretty dead period on the sports calendar through this week.

If you consider this part of the year a “dead period on the sports calendar” then you aren’t a well rounded sports fan.

I hope it does well. The Battlehawks opened the upper deck to meet the ticket demand.

It is THE dead period of the sports calendar. Sports Illustrated started the swimsuit edition in February for this reason.

If it’s on and I remember, I’ve been watching it. It’s not bad. Seems like better spring football than I’ve seen in recent memory.

I dig the XFL. No, it's not the NFL, but it's reasonably good football, and I like a lot of the rule changes they've made.

My hope is that the league can ride things out for a few years, and down the road, they can come to some sort of agreement with the NFL/NFLPA that would allow players signed to NFL practice squads and futures contracts to be loaned to XFL teams.

Beyond the 600+ players on NFL rosters, there are another 1000+ guys with the ability to compete in the NFL as well, just not enough spots, I like that the spring leagues give these guys a chance to showcase and improve on their talents past college. MLB has the minor leagues, NBA has the G league now, I think the spring leagues are a good thing.
