What happened to Fans holding up signs at College Football, MLB, NFL games?

I remember from like 1998 to 2013, almost every game dozens of times, ESPN would pan to a fan holding up a sign. Just watched Yankees Red Sox 2013 at Fenway. A Rod goes up to bat, camera pans to 50 fans holding up A-Roid signs, PED Crossing sign, etc. He ends up getting pegged, then comes up next AB and hits a missile 450 in deepest part of Fenway. Watched Ohio St LSU nati highlights. So many signs from fans. So many Geaux Tiger signs. It's not a net negative to not have signs. Doesn't really matter. Just curious as to why and if other people notice that as well.

I like the gameday signs but sitting behind someone holding up a sign gets old quick.

I hold up austin 3:16 signs whenever me and the buds go to wresslin matches. Seems to still be pretty popular among the original fans like us!

My guess is stadium security has something to do with that… nobody wants to be behind that guy especially paying what they do for tickets to big games now. Crowds are more corporate now than they used to be
The people that tend to bring those signs now are way outside the range of tv cameras

I see them in the stands pretty much every single Reds game.
Don't see them a ton at UK football games. UK basketball gets them still.
