Honestly I think Georgia happened. And to a lesser extent, Florida State and South Carolina aren't slouches either.

Clemson isn't recruiting as well as they have in years' past due to Dabo's refusal to participate in NIL and the Transfer Portal.

Simple. They gave a hillbilly $100 million. He predictably went off the rails thinking that he could build a "master race" from within the Clemson family. The rest of the world just saw it correctly as nepotism. The program is as soft as baby butts currently from bottom to top. We will see if they can turn it around, but nobody seems to be able to get through to Dabo, and he turns on those who try.

Yes he was. Clemson’s problem is they do not have elite WRs. They do not throw deep anymore. They lived off the 50/50 balls which Hopkins, Watkins, Williams, Higgins, Ross, etc. could catch 80% of the time.

I'm not a neutral observer, but, I do see some patterns.

It's a confluence of things.

1) NiL has produced parity in an area where Clemson legit had a leg up with their money to recruits. Now anyone and everyone are doing what they were once uniquely good at.

2) a lot of coaching attrition over the years. Inability to replace Venables and their offensive system is a major issue

3) lack of generational QB, or difference makers at WR

4) RBs aren't as good as they were. Etienne isn't walking through the clubhouse

5) Dabo hired a great assistant in Riley, but outright said he was brought in to run the "Clemson offense." Let him cook

6) I don't see the D-Line talent that they had during their dominant stretch. It's just not there like it was

WRs are not great and the QB isn't Watson or Lawrence.

Losing key assistants. More competitive recruiting.

A string of quarterback busts.

DJU didn’t look all that bad at OREGON state.

Then couple that with Dabo refusing to adapt to NIL and the portal.

I think this is a very large part.

He also has rarely, if ever, gone outside the box on coordinator hires. That doesn’t explain the current offensive woes, but the complete lack of difference makers on the outside does.

He's not an overall #1 draft pick either though. We can come up with a doezn bullet points that all DO play a factor in some form or another, but the facts are:

-Watson/Lawrence = 93% win percentage and 2 natties
-Everyone else in his career = ~70% win percentage and 0 natties

2 fumbles deep in red zone.
and another fumble.

if they handed off normally they are tied or better.

Dabo gave coordinator jobs to his unqualified buddies

I think this is the biggest factor. All top program will and should have staff turnover. If you staff is doing a good job, they get better opportunities. The top programs replace staff losses with the best and brightest. Clemson has not replaced their staff well and results are clear.
