What do you think about private high school 'all-star' teams like IMG Academy?

In 2013, MaxPreps called IMG Academy the "nation's top high school football facility."

I think it's a model that can't be replicated so all the handwringing about it ruining high school sports across the country is completely overblown.

Better development and schooling for those elite kids. But they shouldn't be allowed to play regular HS teams

Good thing, IMO.

It's set up as a college prep program to allow players to essentially get accustomed to the the school/athletic schedule of college.

Schools benefit because players show up more prepared for college. Players benefit by being accustomed to the demands they'll face in college.

It also isn't going away, so I prefer leaning into it.

I have no problem with it, but the kids who elect to go there possibly miss out on the experience of playing with lifelong friends and for a community they grew up in.

I can’t imagine anybody really cares about IMG’s results aside from the the players’ direct family and staff. I’m sure it’s somewhat of a hollow experience.

Good point, this is definitely true. I've seen them play in person a few times, and while they get up beforehand, afterwards they just sort of walk around without a lot of emotion. They also hand out most of their gear to kids in the stands.

Most IMG players come in as juniors and seniors, so they've had some of that already.

That's how IMG functions best, IMO. As a bridge for a talented kid who's destined for D1 to start adjusting to college schedule and demands.

Like a Hargrave military Academy did?

I don't know a ton about Hargrave, but I do know a bit about IMG.

At Arizona, we got Josh Green from IMG. He played in Phoenix for his first two years of HS, the IMG as a junior/senior.

That's common for IMG. IMG wants high profile kids, so they try to pull kids who've already demonstrated they're good.

If Hargrave was a prep school, it's basically like that.

They have in the past.

There are no official pronouncements from UIL forbidding it. But the public school coaching fraternity has essentially banded together and agreed not to schedule them, disliking their recruiting practices.

The private schools are quite small and not strong enough to take on an IMG so they don't.

Don’t they know Texas vs. IMG games are meaningless and won’t stop them from winning district and/or state? So why not test yourself if you have the opportunity

I could be misremembering, but I believe IMG’s recruitment of Greg Little, who was like a top 5 overall recruit, from Allen caused the domino effect of the statewide boycott.

IMG is a college and has nicer facilities than a lot of D1 schools. With that being said, it doesn’t bother me. I’m sure the kids love it, it’s in a nice place, and it prepares them for D1 life

The reason is that they believe schools like IMG are destroying the high school experience part of high school football, especially in a one-school community whether as small as Munday, medium-sized like Carthage, or the biggest of them all in Allen. It's the principle which they consider important.
