What conference expansion targets would make a seismic change in college football?

Similar to Texas and OU to the SEC?

Not just moves to add teams or pad your numbers to 16, but real power moves, at least semi-realistic. Moves that could change the landscape of college football.

1. Notre Dame to either the ACC or Big 10.

2. Penn State to the ACC

3. Clemson to the Big 10. (This sounds crazy, but they can’t tolerate South Carolina having triple their budget)

If we are being realistic, this is it. Past this point, there are moves to be made, but it’s mostly media moves that add markets, but don’t help your football.

4. Virginia or Virginia Tech to the Big 10

5. Georgia Tech to the Big 10

6. Colorado to the Big 10

7. Big 12 remnants to PAC or Big 10. Getting a foothold in Texas would be big for either conference. Not sure who they would add.

8. Would the ACC consider a Baylor or TCU to get into Texas?

The SEC snagging Ohio State and Clemson would effectively shatter whatever small dominion the NCAA still holds over college football

You all are thinking expansion when instead things are headed toward contraction.

The end game is 24-32 schools in a super organization.

The ACC adding ND and Penn State would be a solid move.

Big 10 should scoop up Iowa State

Something big has to happen or the ACC is fricked.

They are locked into a shitty TV deal for 15 more years. Schools like Clemson are not going to sit around and watch the budgets of their rivals triple while theirs stagnates.

The ACC needs a couple major acquisitions to allow them to renegotiate their TV deal.

They need Notre Dame, and it’s pure malpractice that they didn’t use the leverage they had during Covid to try and force their hand. Letting ND have a free year in the ACC was a dumb move.

Penn State and Notre Dame are what they need.

We won't beat Clemson before the ACC's tv deal ends. Our entire administration, much less our athletic department, is an absolute dumpster fire right now with zero signs of that changing.

We are likely heading for 3 super conferences, and the SEC and ACC seem to be in the two best positions to survive consolidation IMO. That means either the Big 10 or PAC 12 breaking up. So whoever jumps ship on their conference first between OSU and USC, that’ll be your answer.

The correct answer. This would be the nail in the coffin. SEC does this, runs their own tournament to crown their own champion, doesn't participate in the NCAA's version of postseasons, ballgame.

The NCAA has nothing to do with the college football postseason.

I think it’s four super conferences of 16. The Big 12 will fold, or be minimized.

The Big 10 is the second strongest conference. The ACC is extremely weak, due to a horrible TV contract.

Football is all that matters in this discussion.

You think a couple super conferences are going to replace March Madness?

When the SEC finishes, there will be 2 conferences. The SEC and some new northern conference.

The ACC would kill for ND and Penn State.

ND is TV darling and Penn State has the largest alumni in the nation.
