he actually had his own NIL program at SMU - and it appears maybe UNLV prior - too

quote:

Following a season of poor performance, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Rebels hired Meyer in 1973, who successfully turned the program around. In the following three seasons, the Rebels went 27–8, with an undefeated regular season at 11–0 in 1974.[3]: 120 In the wake of Meyer's later involvement in the SMU football scandal, former Rebels player Wayne Nunnely said of their sudden turnaround "I felt, uh, things moved awfully fast here, too. There were a lot of players in here really fast. That’s as far as I’ll go on that one."[

Switzer and Spurrier.

Aggies would have liked Sandusky

yessir - Kang Jackie - he's another good one -

I always liked Switzer - mostly because I just never had much interest in Osborn - always went for OU in that game -

Same here. Barry was the best character in college football at the time.

Son of a Bootlegger

here's Barry v Jimmy 1986 in the Orange Bowl - this game was huge - CBS had Musburger and he was at the top of his craft then - lots of hype for the 1 vs 2 matchup -

UMIami used to have one helluva home crowd advantage when they played in the old neighborhood - rip Orange Bowl Stadium -

Spurrier would destroy folks.

For Auburn peak Tommy Tuberville would make some serious noise.

Ya, you get the feeling he is Jackie Sherril 40 years later.

Nothing against Switzer, but I don’t know if his offensive style would translate today.

From 1985 to 1987 Oklahoma was 33-3. All three losses were to Miami. Miami likely kept OU from a three peat. Both of those teams were absolutely loaded with talent.

would own college football ? I'm going with Barry Switzer. Dude was a cheat code in the 70's. I think he kills it with today's NIL rules.

Switzer was at a place where he could acquire talent. You need a coach that’s dynamite with X’s and O’s and a culture builder but struggled recruiting/didn’t have the same resources.

Dan Mullen and Bill Snyder are the two I think of

Bear Bryant was a cheating SOB, so he would be comfortable with the process.

Nah, the field would be leveled and he wouldn’t be as dominant. He’d still be great, but when everyone can pay players he would have a few more peers with comparable talent.

Funny how Saban bowed out when NIL became a thing.
I can’t think of a better way for someone with nothing left to prove to spend their twilight years than kissing the asses of child mercenaries and their greedy / retarded handlers. He’d be severely mentally ill to want anything to do with that
