I always remember hearing about some bullshite involving Joey Galloway and a 4.1...but I want to say that happened at a practice and not the combine

Every classic speedster has some type of myth surrounding them. Deion, Bo, darrell green, moss, etc

impossible. it's not true. Likely 4.15 range is the limit.
Why is 4.15 the 40 limit? Didn't four minutes used to be the limit for the mile? A few years ago, Hicham El-Gerrouj ran a 3:43. You have no idea what you are talking about. Do you know anything about running?
Bolt could crush those guys. Actually, I might take Mike Rodgers over anyone else (a stud at the 60M dash and a rising star in the 100). I don't think too many of those NFL players could under 10 seconds in a 100M dash without specifically training for it.

Dont know the answer but according to SI.com Jevon Kerse had the same time as Dion in the first 10 yards. That crazy fast out of the blocks for a defensive end.

I would throw Bob Hayes into the "classic speedster" mix, although training was different back then. I think Usain Bolt's sub-4 estimated time might be accurate, but it doesn't account for the difference between running on track and turf. My guess is that the average difference for elite runners is .2 seconds.

What do you think is the limit? I mean, you don't think it's possible for someone to run a 2.0 do you? There has to be a limit.

Taking a 40 yard split of Usain Bolt WR 100M run shows he ran that first 40 yards in 4.35 seconds.
Not the same race, I know, but still a huge gap (time wise) to some of the fastest NFL times. I am sure he could make up some ground, but at 6'5" I don't know if he could beat the fastest NFL times in that race.

Google it. He was likely in that range.

Seriously I'm sure it's not the "limit" for all man kind, but I would bet anyone today that Bolt or anyone else in the world doesn't break 4.15 at the NFL combine.

The worlds fastest man couldnt beat NFL players in the 40? Come on.

I know that is not going to happen, but saying the limit is only 4.15 seconds when Chris Johnson ran a 4.24? is not very optimistic. If you look at the rapid improvement (fractions of a second) of 100m times over the past few years, then it gives me reason to believe that we can keep knocking off fractions of a second to the time, to a certain extent. Maybe we would level out around 3.8 or 3.9, but there is no way to tell.

Jose Canseco ran a 4.2 last week...just ask him.

Bolt would not be my choice to run this race. I would take Mike Rodgers like I said before. His acceleration is phenomenial; however, it needs to be done in a setting where there is no DQ for false starts, so he does not have to start cautiously.

Well when this does happen, you can bet the Raiders will draft the guy.

Willie Gault was pretty fast

I would guess that Deion and Darrell Green probably were in the sub 4.3 range. If he had gone to the NFL instead of the USFL I bet Herschel Walker would have put up an insane 40 time too.
