What an 8 Team Playoff would look like using 11/5/19 CFP Rankings

I understand that the final Top 8 will look different than this Top 8, but who wouldn't love to see this playoff at the end of the year? There are some great match ups here.

Having the 1st round games at the home stadiums of the Top 4 would be cool as well. What season ticket holder wouldn't want first chance to get their regular seats for one of these games?

It's interesting that the right half of the bracket is almost an SEC only invitational.

That looks good, though I wonder if they would put a cap on how many teams per conference could make it the way they did with the BCS slots. I can think of 2 years off the top of my head that LSU wasn’t allowed a BCS game because of this.

Huge drop off from 6 to 7.

I think Penn State gets exposed by Ohio State as well, but UGA with Cager healthy would handle Utah and Oregon with ease.

Well by the end of the year Oregon or Utah will have at least 2 losses. And there’s already 4 games left on the schedule between teams on this list. So yeah if you did the playoff now 8 would be great. But at the end of the year there’s rarely more than 5 or 6 teams that deserve a shot at a title.

The current playoff has no caps on how many teams from a conference can make it, so one would hope that an eight team playoff would follow that lead.

And get rid of all the bowl games.

4 is good enough. You are going to have a lot more frickery with having to decide between a CCG loser and another team in the conference that might have benefited by not playing in the CCG game. Also, I don't think the SEC is ever going to agree to the campus site game situation. Further, playing those games in mid to late December on campus seems like a mess with exams and the holidays.

I understand what you are saying and cant argue that they might think that way. But that would like saying that 2 teams from the same NFL Division (#1 seed and a wildcard that made its way to the finals) couldn't play in the Conference Championship game.

Are they looking to spread out representation or match the best teams against each other.

Not at all. The top 4 teams are playing for home field advantage in the playoffs. That would be huge.

More teams and more games would be better. But 8 would have to be the cap. This year would be a great year for 8 teams, as of now.
I love college football as much as anyone and would love to see more games with great teams head to head

I like 4 as well. I wouldn’t hate 6 because I like the idea of special seasons getting rewarded with byes. I also feel a bit like less is more with these things and hate the idea of teams on the lower end of the top 10 getting a shot at the title.

24 is what it should be so everyone in FBS gets a shot. For those that complain below whatever doesn't deserve to be in, look if they win 5 games in a row beating teams that are ranked highly.

Take say Michigan at 14

They would have beaten (if no upsets)

19 Wake
3 Alabama
6 Georgia
2 LSU
1 OSU

To do that a team earned the NC

The opening round home games would be incredible for the sport and would make this 8 team playoff be plausible.

Have those on NYE and NYD.

Home field advantage would be MASSIVE. As would your pairing.

Would you rather play Utah at home or Ohio State on the road?

I like 6 as well. The problem with 8 is not rewarding the best teams enough. Your prize for being top 2 is a home game? With 8, you're better off losing this LSU/Bama game and getting to skip the SEC CG. It might happen this year with 4, but it would happen EVERY year with 8. I don't think that's a good thing for the sport.

Also, quarterfinals on campus would be amazing but you know that shite would end up at neutral sites.

MEANINGLESS. Gonna sit here and argue about homefield advantage. Get out of here.

I can't understand anyone looking at this and thinking the current or past system is better. Is it perfect? No. Is it better than anything since ever? Absolutely.

Pairing + Home Field would be absolutely monumental.

See my previous post in this thread.

That is the difference in playing Utah at home or Ohio State/Penn State on the road. That is a 14-18 pt swing in the Vegas line.
