Pairing + Home Field would be absolutely monumental.

See my previous post in this thread.

That is the difference in playing Utah at home or Ohio State/Penn State on the road. That is a 14-18 pt swing in the Vegas line.

Are you basing your entire opinion on the fact you don't want Nick Saban, who isn't immortal and won't be coaching forever, to back door into the playoff after losing a game?

MEANINGLESS. Gonna sit here and argue about homefield advantage. Get out of here.

So you are saying that Bama losing to LSU and then dropping to have to play Ohio State in Columbus is no different than hosting Georgia in Tuscaloosa. Get out of here yourself. No one would believe that.

I can't understand anyone looking at this and thinking the current or past system is better.

Because how it looks now is not how it will look at the end of the season. Some of those teams could have 1-2 more losses and suddenly it doesn’t seem as appealing.

I think it should be 5 P5 conference champions and 3 at larges.

The 3 at-larges and 1-8 rankings are chosen by the committee.

Not really. Most schools have exams the 1st or 2nd week of December. Play the game the weekend right before Christmas.

I don't think the SEC is ever going to agree to the campus site game situation.
Money will get them to agree to it, just like changing the rules to allow beer to be sold in the stadiums.

I would throw in the top ranked G5 champ in there too. Only leave 2 spots at-large for Notre Dame or non-champs.

The fact that LSU and Bama would each walk into this game knowing they still have a walk in to the playoff tournament renders this game so much more meaningless.

Round 1 on NYE/NYD.

Round 2 a week later.

Championship a week later.

You're done by January 14th(ish), just as you are now.

How is that hard? It would be INCREDIBLE to have those 4 first round games on NYE/NYD on college campuses. Think of those environments. That would be fricking insanity in the best way. And it would be way more affordable for fans.

If we do something like that, then we need to get rid of Early Signing Day. It’s already a cluster as it is.

Wouldn't give them a spot at all. Wanna be in the playoff? Join a damn conference.

Really grinds my gears

8 teams will happen sooner rather than later. The 4 team playoff is awful but better than BCS

An 8 team playoff would mean that even without being forced to take all the Power 5 champions, teams from all the Power 5 conferences would likely make it every year.

In the occasional year when a P5 champ didn't make it was because they were a 3 loss team that upset the better team in the CG, it's possible the conference would still get a team in the playoff.

It really would be amazing, I just don't trust the powers that be to give us that.

I envision something more along the lines of: LSU vs. Oregon in the VRBO Citrus Bowl Quarterfinal from Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

That would ruin it.

And the only way I'm ok with 8 teams getting in, is if they give a big advantage to the top 4 in the form on home field.

Make it where conference champs automatically get the top 6 seeds and the at-large teams are always seeded 7 and 8. That puts the Bama/LSU loser as going on the road for the opening round, with a good chance of playing in below freezing temps. That keeps their regular season matchup pretty meaningful

Already set up this way for Bama anyway.
