Were the 2023 Texas Rangers really better than the Rangers team that lost to the Cards?

No doubt they played better and got hot at the right time. And their manager Bruce Bochy is headed for the Hall of Fame.
But that team was playing in its second straight World Series. It was a powerhouse team that included Josh Hamilton, Adrian Beltre, Michael Young and Colby Lewis, just to name a few.
Some years after he had retired, I think Al McGuire of Marquette said his only national championship team was not really his best. It was just their year.
So what do you think?

They were better coached...

People say the same thing about the 2009 Saints compared to the 2011 and 2018 teams, including several players who were on the Super Bowl team.

It’s baseball. The best team doesn’t always win. As a matter of fact, as it applies to MLB, I’d venture that the best team doesn’t win (the World Series) about half the time.

2010 and 2011 teams were better relative to the competition of the time, especially offensively.
This year was a classic case of a solid but streaky team catching fire and playing unbelievably well on the road.

2023 Rangers played a much weaker opponent in the WS than 2011 team …so yes 2011 was more talented but the manager was an imbecile for keeping Cruz in right field when he had better defensive options on the bench for the final three outs.

So you believe the Rangers were the best team? We can’t believe the system, as is, regularly results in the best team not winning — and then dock a team for beating another pennant winner.

I thought their 2011 and 2017 teams were the two best they had under Payton. We were a dropped Julio Jones touchdown pass and a Minneapolis Miracle away from having a Falcons/Saints NFCCG in 2017, which may have broken this website.
Baseball is weird. 1995 was probably the 4th best team the Braves had in the 1990s (1993, 1996, 1998 were all better, IMO), but that was the only one to win a World Series. 2021 was not the best Braves team in this current run, either.
I'm sure some Astros fans would say their 2019 and 2021 teams were better than the 2017 and 2022 World Series winners.

Weren’t even the best team in 2023. Just got hot at the right time and the better teams just went cold

That 2019 Astros team was the best Astros team ever. What should have been.

What makes you put 2017 above 2018? 2018 was the runaway favorite to win the Super Bowl. Despite our offense petering off after the INT return hit Brees took on Thanksgiving, the defense picked up the slack and was the best in football the rest of the season.
In 2017, I felt like we were a year away. In 2018, I knew it was our time to win it.

Playoff baseball is a lottery or close to it. 2021 Braves were the 3rd or 4th best team in the current 6 year division title run and the only one to make, let alone win, the WS.
Best team is occasionally also hot at the right time, but the winner of the WS should not be confused with the best team in the sport.

MLB was always going to be most affected of the major sports by expanded playoffs. I get that it’s good for business, but the nature of baseball and the relative unimportance of home field makes it a crap shoot once the postseason starts.

The 23 Rangers didn’t have Nelson Cruz playing right field in the bottom of the 9th with the lead.

If only Adolis had been in right on the 2011 team. Oh well.
World Series champs, baby! Hope y’all are ready for back to back.
