The near-failure and success of the LeBron James-era Miami Heat

quote:

In a May Instagram chat, Chris Bosh gave voice to the gnawing sense that the Miami Heat of 2010 to 2014 -- a supernova of sports celebrity -- fell short of expectations. Bosh conceded the Golden State Warriors had surpassed that Heat team in dynastic terms, and compared the Heat to the short-lived U.K. musical phenomenon Cream.

Bosh has not been alone. In the lead-up to Wednesday's 10-year anniversary of The Decision, a roundtable of ESPN experts debated whether the Big Three Heat underachieved. End-of-decade retrospectives about the 2010s NBA seemed to focus more on the Warriors, and even on LeBron James' transcendent run in 2016 to Cleveland's first championship in 52 years.

Some of that was our collective brain gravitating toward more recent events. Some of it was about basic longevity. The Heat's run came apart at least two or three years before they anticipated -- before LeBron even turned 30. If the Heat's on-court imprint failed to measure up to the earthquake of the team's formation, a lot of that had to do with the decline of Dwyane Wade's knees.

Yea. Best player in the league plus being on a super team.. 3 of 4 would be what was expected.

Kd warriors were much much better. Only one franchise could even give GSW a semblance of a series in the 3 years KD was playing.

They should have beat the Mavs in 2011. Wade and some of the supporting cast was too far gone by 2014 to take out a really good Spurs team.

A lot of things can go wrong, though. Look at other teams with 3 stars. The Warriors got 2 rings with Durant, the Celtics 1.

It's hard to say winning two rings in four years is all that disappointing, especially with four finals appearances. The biggest disappointment is feeling like it should have been three with the 2011 Mavs series.

Lebron is a perfect example of how most people don’t like a try-hard regardless of their talent.

It was funny when LeBron turned into Ryan Bowen when it mattered and ran away from the ball each possession.

The only disappointment was 2011, they otherwise have multiple championships going for them, and I didn’t fully read the article, but it didn’t look like it accounted for the fact that LeBron always had an interest in going back to Cleveland at some point during that time, so the run was due to end somewhere regardless.

I think it was a disappointment. But, really only a slight disappointment.

They should have beat the Mavs in 2011. I don't think you will find a single basket ball analyst anywhere who says otherwise. Even the biggest Mavs fans would likely agree.
They could have won in 14 against the Spurs. But that Spurs team was freaking solid as hell. I don't hold it against them for losing that much. I hold it against them for the way they lost. It seemed like by the end of game 3 the Heat had already checked out and gave up the series. That should have been a 6 or 7 game series if the Heat didn't lay down the way they did.

But quite frankly, that series signified it was the end. Wade was no longer in his prime and was having increasing injury problems.
And I think the year after Bosh was forced to retire due to blood clot issues.

LeBron and Wade never fit together and Wade seemed like he aged 15 years during that time.
