An owner. Never played the game. Will control the roster.

What could possibly go wrong?

The Jags are NOT taking Fields at #1.

If Urban takes that job he will know Fields MUCH better than TL. Not saying he gets taken first, but Meyer can learn more about Fields in a week than he can learn about TL in 3 months; he can just call up Day and his son in law who is the QB coach at OSU

Wow..... that’s just stupid....... Meyer can’t control in the NFL like he could in college...... just like Saban.... think about it........

Indy did it in the 90s. And probably the 80s too when they were in Baltimore.

What years did they draft back to back #1?

I see Bengals 94 and 95
Browns 99 and 00
Browns 17 and 18

I posted in another thread meant for this one

So if Jacksonville has 11 picks they could easily, based off mocks and etc end up with these guys

Lawrence
ETN or Harris
Rodger (WR from Clemson)
Schwartz (Auburn)
Hendershot (IU)
Kylin Hill

If I am running the organization I go get me a coach that says screw it were going to outscore you like the Chiefs and just draft WR, TE, RB this year. Next year go all Defense and at least have entertaining football on offense and a Clown Show like Dallas on Defense.

Between Polian Beathard and Tex. Tex Schramm was far and away ahead of his time.

Paul Brown should be up there as well.

Yea but that hair though

In my unpopular sports opinion of the day, I’m going to predict that he’s going to be Gardner Minshew 2.0... a social media sensation because of his ‘style’, but a mediocre NFL QB

I missed on Indy but Tampa had the 1st several years in a row in the 80s.

They got Bo Jackson one year, Vinny Testaverde another, and traded the 1st overall around that same timeframe.

You forgot the obvious #1 answer which is Al Davis. Bill Polian benefitted tremendously from having HOF coaches Marv Levy and Tony Dungy in control of his rosters. Same with Bobby Beathard with Joe Gibbs and Tex Schramm with Tom Landry. Al Davis won with John Rauch and Tom Flores and Art Shell and Jon Gruden and Bill Callahan as his head coaches. The Raiders are the only organization in NFL history that had sustained long-term success without elite coaching and that was entirely due to Al Davis and his remarkable roster construction and team building skills.

Paul Brown was best now I think of it. Davis has been romanticized. Beathard hired those HOF coaches and changed the way you draft. Polian hired Levy who was a bum before Buffalo (see his record in KC and then after he got the talent Polian gave him). Tex Schramm and Paul Brown are 1 and 2. Schramm was the first to use computers and data to determine players (analytics) Brown was the first to use film to study players and not just go off stats, he also used film to coach his team.

ETA:

Beathard and Polian took 2 separate organizations to a Super Bowl.

How about Jim Finks? He won consistently in Minny and turned the Saints from a clusterfrick into a great team in short order, though Jim Mora wasn’t able to capitalize on it in the playoffs.

76 and 77

86 and 87

I also said last 20 years

Point is, say TL doesn’t come out this year, I don’t see the Jaguars getting the first pick next year, and even if they did, but had already taken Fields, they’d trade down or take an OL. IMO

Polian
Beathard
Schramm
Or Davis

Did any of those play professional football?

(I think only Beathard did)

ETA: Brown
He never did either

What does that matter? Usually recognizable players or former players that were stars are the worst admins. See Elway and the NBAPA. Jury is out on Lynch.

A lot of people on here are setting themselves up to be forever mocked on here over predicting that Lawrence is gonna either be a bust or mediocre.
