shot a nice 78 at Latour saturday. Ran off 9 straight pars before I 3 putted 17. Very happy considering how bad and quick my swing has been the last few months. My last three scores were probably upper 80's with a 90.

i'm not a great putter but I need to find a way to make a couple longer puts when I am hitting greens like I did Saturday.

Want to get out to atchafalaya this week.

Played for the 3rd time this spring on Friday. Shot an 88 with 3 birdies. Couldn't make anything within 5 feet leading to a bunch of doubles.

No membership is killing me this spring. All I want to do is play and I can't afford to do it.

Thought I'd share this info here that came in the brec newsletter:

quote:

Tip of the week: A study of the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences in Denver, Colo.

The figures cited are for nine holes:
Calories Burned
Walking: 721
Using push cart: 718
Using caddie: 613
Riding: 411
Miles Walked
Not riding in cart: 2.5
Riding in cart: 0.5

The study concludes that golfers who walk 36 holes a week will burn around 2,900 calories per week. The threshold of 2,500 calories burned in a week is an important one; according to an AP article, "Studies have shown that those who burn 2,500 calories a week improve their overall health by lowering their risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer."

Not bad calorie wise even for riding

I want to walk more, but I always find an excuse not to

Me too. I find I play better when I do. Get a push cart or one of the ones that follows you around

What weight are those figures based on? I started walking last week and burned 840ish according to myfitnesspal app. Trying to walk more now to drop weight.

That's all of the info that was given, not sure about weight

I was surprised the difference in carrying and pushing was so small

I even bought some Adidas powerbands for this specific reason. I've worn them 5 times.

I'll walk this week. F' it.

18 carrying and 18 pushing the cart is probably a 5-10 stroke difference. Maybe more.

I would feel in the way. It would be okay if everyone else on the course walked, so that the pace of play was about the same. But with everyone in a cart, I'd always be slow, always have to let people play through, and it seems like it would take forever.

It doesn't take long at all

Obviously playing alone or just a twosome would be faster riding but once you have 3 or 4 people, walking is probably faster, even if its 2 riders and one walker

As long as you play ready golf

So really, just play more rounds per week while carting.

I usually walk because I'm cheap, but the MSU membership included cart so I've carted every time this year. I enjoy walking though. I play better I think. Gives me a better feel of the course.

Walking gives you time to settle down after a bad shot. I always shoot better walking.

I would definitely feel more comfortable walking on a weekday or something when the course is relatively empty.

The way your ball tends to zig and zag around the course, carting it is probably in your best interests
