first of all lebron and kobe are two completely different players.
lebron is a facilitator and a drive-first player.
kobe is a scorer with the best jumper in the nba, but can facilitate too.
as for stats, they really dont tell the whole story.
Think about the makeups of the team:
Cavs:
built around lebron..spot up shooters everywhere. even their point guard is a spot up shooter. lebron gets most of his assists by kicking it out. this is by design to take advantage of his driving ability.
Lakers:
kobe has a different role than lebron in a different offense. the triangle offense doesnt lend itself to a high number of assists (jordan's assists dropped when phil came in).
as for field goal percentage, think about the shots they are taking. lebron is driving to the rim and dunking while kobe is taking jumpshots. of course his field goal percentage is lower. no surprise that kobe has a higher 3 point percentage and free throw percentage.
also, lebron piles on the stat sheet because that is what his team needs him to do. he gets the ball almost every possession. its a lot like dwade in miami. both control the ball more than kobe does in the triangle offense. more ball control=more opportunities for stats.
anways, IMO both are great players. lebron is the physically most dominant player in the league while kobe is the best scorer in the league.
in the end i would have to take kobe because of clutch shooting, will, and the fact that he can make a jumper from anywhere on the court. the one weakness in lebrons game is that he can go cold from outside and become ineffective as a scorer IF you can keep him out of the paint. that is obviously a big if.
i know this is way too long but i would also make this point: kobe is a better skillwise passer than lebron. lebron gets more assists to spot up shooters but kobe's passes are usually prettier and at a higher level of difficulty. that is all.

Right, but you can't penalize lebron because he is gifted enough to get more easy layups and dunks then any other perimeter player in the NBA now, and probably ever. That fact actually is an ADVANTAGE for Lebron.

But before the Lakers got Gasol, they had a nice 2 or 3 year stretch where they were really shitty, and yet Kobe still didnt pile up rebounds or stats like Lebron has.

Not so fast, my friend:
LBJ>>>Kobe here
And here too

No clue how you can say that. lebron was a better passer at 19 years old then kobe ever was.
In the debate of Lebron-Kobe, passing is really not debateable. Saying Kobe is a better passer in any capacity would be the equivolent of me saying Lebron is a better jump shooter.

We are finally getting to see the real Kobe, what an arrogant a**hole. I hope the Rockets can man up and keep their composure. The Lakers are still over confident and looking past this series, especially after last nights win.

I'm about as far from a Lakers fan as one could possibly be, but give me a fricking break. It's the playoffs, shite happens

did u see the stats that someone posted earlier that had rodgers statistically better than peyton manning?
i dont know who is better. both are great players, but none of yall know who is better. none of you play the game against these guys to decide who is better. whatever the guys in the nba say is what i will go with.
yeah, that would be a one season aberration. lebron's stats are better than anything kobe has done in his entire career by a wide margin. if rodgers had put up superior numbers to peyton's excellent seasons then yes, he would probably be a superior quarterback. i don't know what is so hard to grasp about any of this. a lot of times stats eliminate human bias. i like how the only argument for kobe is that "i watch him play and he looks the best to me". so you watch him score fewer points on worse shooting, rack up fewer assist, fewer rebounds, blocks, steals, etc and from that you can see that he's a better player? awesome

this argument makes me laugh because lebron isn't only better for this one season, his numbers are better than any season kobe has ever had. it is starting to become similar to the kobe/MJ arguments in that the only way to justify kobe being as good as lebron is to bring excuses and hypotheticals into the argument or totally ignore any statistical measurements

So, you think Patrick Ewing was better than Shaq, right?
Ewing was more skilled and complete, while Shaq used his freakish strength.
Ewing>>>Shaq. Brilliant!!!

Better passer, more efficient scorer.
Sounds pretty complete to me.
I'm pretty sure you out on a limb on this one...people who know basketball will tell you Kobe is far more complete offensively. You're just a Kobe Hater or a Lebron Fan.

He threw an elbow, plain and simple. That wasn't an accident, and if you think it was, then your a friggin' homer.
Thank you. He knows what he's doing. Kobe hardly ever throw bows like that. He did that shite to piss Artest off to the point to wear he'll want to fight and get ejected for the next game.

Elbowing someone in the throat is only permissable in MMA and no other sports. frick you and your "this is the playoffs" excuse. If Ron does a Kung Fu kick to Kobe's knee will you applaud his tough play in the playoffs?
