Hot the ball and forced a fumble. Did not hit the offensive player above the shoulders at all. Wasn’t even close.

At the ball and forced a fumble. Was not flagged after the play. Call came from booth review.

I get it if he has launched into the other guys face but he hit the ball and knocked it loose.

Should not be “targeting”

No offense, but maybe you should read the targeting rule. There are two forms of targeting: (1) leading with the crown w/ at least one indicator of targeting and (2) forcible contact to the head or neck area to a defenseless player.

The Washington play was a textbook example of form #1. He led with the crown and he launched, which is an indicator of targeting. Good call. You're wrong.

Terrible call. Just because the running back folded like a cheap tent when he was hit was no reason to eject him.

Don't like it, but it is the rule. You just can't do that anymore.

It isn't going away, either. Every time they hold on to a flag and another head snaps back, you are one step closer to an even more stringent rule-- so hope they enforce this, and don't completely screw the rules with even more non-allowed contact rules.

Great call. Questionable rule.

In cases like this, it's to protect the player launching from breaking his neck. I agree they should change the name to something else.

I don’t mind the rule for the most part. But ejection isn’t the answer for some of these plays. It’s changing whole games for hits where players were doing everything right but got caught in an unfortunate position due to rapidly changing angles.

IMO the only thing that is questionable is the wording of the rule, not the spirit of the rule. In fact, rules like targeting will help SAVE football. Think of it this way: Because of the brain trauma evidence, football will change or it will die. I'd rather it change. A lot of you guys are so myopic.

Downvote away.

Players should wrap up and tackle properly rather than going for a knock-out hit. It isn't complicated. Good fundamentals helps you avoid targeting. Ejection helps drive that point home. IMO it doesn't go far enough. I think two targeting penalties in a season should warrant suspension for the season.

Right call based on the rule. The rule is what sucks.

100% right.

It's all about covering their asses against these CTE lawsuits. So even if a guy hits the ball, he's out for lowering his helmet.

One problem with that. The human head is attached to the top of the shoulders. Unless players start tackling feet first, shite will happen.

Guy went head first into the ball carrier and the rule is to protect the defender as well.

Ask Eric Legrand & countless other defenders paralyzed or killed sticking the crown of their helmet into a ball carrier.
