It was a debatable call and came at the deciding moment. I wouldn't call it a hack job.

No. That whole series, particularly the last 2 games, were an embarrassment to the NBA.

The last four games of the 06 finals were atrocious. Actually many of the even numbered years for the last 10-15 years have had questionable conference finals and championship finals now that I think about it.

Worst officiated game I have ever seen. Lakers shot 27 free throws in the fourth quarter.

That wasnt the case in this game. Never been so pissed about officiating in a non LSU game and I couldnt stand the Lakers or the Kings that year. Im not an every NBA game is fixed guy either but if there was one this game was it.

Lest we also forget the 4th quarter of game 4 in the 2009 NBA Finals. The refs were doing all they could to extend that series. It was something like Orlando: 19 fts to the Lakers: 0 fts until the final seconds with about 75% of the Magic's points coming from the line.

I really do believe the NBA tries to influence the outcome of CERTAIN games either to extend series, affect the seeding order in the playoffs, or from keeping a particular team from running away with homecourt advantage. Multiple refs have comeout in the past and hinted at this. The NBA is an ENTERTAINMENT business first and doing those things mentioned above improves ratings which gives the NBA more leverage the next time they negotiate tv deals.

I'm not saying the NBA is outright rigged, but I do think the games can be, and have been, easily influenced.

Clyde Drexler ejection O'Donnell's final game of his officiating career was marred by a controversial ejection of the Houston Rockets' Clyde Drexler during the 1995 NBA Playoffs, which allegedly stemmed from a personal feud between the two at the time. In Game 1 of second-round playoff matchup between the Rockets and Phoenix Suns, Drexler picked up two technical fouls, which resulted in an ejection, after arguing with O'Donnell over a questionable "clear path" foul against him while going for a loose ball with the Suns' Dan Majerle. This incident occurred after O'Donnell refused to shake hands at a pregame meeting with Drexler before the opening tipoff, which was the history during the previous couple of years. The Rockets complained to the league over O'Donnell's actions and sent a video tape to Commissioner David Stern showing the meeting of O'Donnell refusing to shake Drexler's hand. Elyse Lanier, the wife of Houston Mayor Bob Lanier, personally phoned Stern to complain about O'Donnell. The league responded to the incident by not assigning O'Donnell to officiate any additional playoff games that year, including the 1995 NBA Finals, which ended a string of 23 consecutive appearances in the Finals. The league also rescinded the standard $1,000 ejection fine to Drexler. The NBA never formally announced the suspension of O'Donnell, but paid him for working the first three playoff rounds, although he did not work past the second round. Both O'Donnell and the NBA have denied the impression that this incident led to O'Donnell being forced out of the league.
At the time, O'Donnell claimed there was no feud between him and Drexler, stating, "I just don't take any crap from anyone, and he couldn't handle that. If he thinks it was personal, fine, but it wasn't from my standpoint." However a year later in an interview with ESPN, O'Donnell admitted to having a long-standing grudge against Drexler that began while "Clyde the Glide" was playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.

I'm not set on saying the entire series was rigged, but I will easily admit that GAME 6 was given to LA.

Lakers 106, Kings 102
5/31/2002 STAPLES Center, Los Angeles, CA

Officials: #27 Dick Bavetta , #16 Ted Bernhardt , #26 Bob Delaney

' Company Men ' as Tim Donaghy called them.

NBA.com write up on the game.

quote:

Hampered by injuries all season, the 7-2, 350-pound O'Neal put the hurt on the Kings. His best game of the 2002 postseason saw him make 14-of-25 shots and 13-of-17 free throws, fouling out Sacramento big men Vlade Divac and Scot Pollard.

"I'm not going to change my game," O'Neal said. "A couple of games I tried to be cute, tried to stay out of foul trouble. I'm just going to play aggressive and (they) call it how they call it. But if they call it like they're supposed to call it, the outcome will be the same like it was tonight. You've got to foul me to stop me, period."

quote:

The Kings thought the Lakers got some help from the officials as well. Los Angeles made 34-of-40 free throws while Sacramento sank 18-of-25. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers hit 21-of-27 from the line while the Kings made 7-of-9.

"Our big guys get 20 fouls tonight and Shaq gets four? You tell me how the game went," Adelman said. "It's just the way it is. Obviously, they got the game called the way they wanted to get it called."

"It's just the reality of the matter," Webber added. "I've heard from some champions that to get to be a champion; you have to go through this, so I was warned."

"It's Okay Mike...it's not like the Kings franchise is about to self destruct or that you'll get passed around from average team to average team for the rest of your career. Cheer up, buddy!"

I'm not even mad when people bring up the PI call being in their eyes incorrect. It was bang bang. Whatever. It's when they ignore the fact the game shouldn't have gone to OT in the first place, but bad officiating helped Miami get there.

I would post pics of the Henry handball(s) against Ireland, but firewall.

The most pissed off i have ever been about a non-US-involved soccer game. Ireland deserved that game.

For what it's worth, game 2 of the 2008 NBA Finals was one of the worst I have ever seen. Boston manhandled LA, took less shots in the paint, shot more jump shots, and still Boston had 38 free throws to LA's 10.
