The QBs that never gets mentioned in these discussions, but for CFB careers only need to...
Major Harris
Pat White
Ken Dorsey
Steve Walsh
Ty Detmer, possibly the most unheralded Heisman QB of last 35 years.
Jim McMahon
Chuck Long
Ryan Leaf
Drew Bledsoe
Kerry Collins
As far as College QB they were exactly what you wanted.

Mariota > Manzeil
as a raw QB, absolutely. i'm talking about pure WTF factor.
none in the lower part of that list are meant as anything to scoff at.

Mariota had WTF factor also. He did things that you were just in amazement of. His speed and the throws he made.

Mariota was faster than Manziel and he had a better arm and would sling it.
Manziel had those signature plays because he looked out of control at times, but Mariota once he got in open field never was caught.

Isn't it crazy to think Oregon had Johnny Manziel committed at one time?
Posted on 9/6/16 at 12:13 pm to TTsTowel
not as crazy to think Cam was in line to takeover after Tim at UF

you can't just leave it at me saying i think Mariota was a great QB (better as a QB than Manziel,) but i have to think he was WTF talent more than Manziel.

Think of the QB's Oregon has had since 2000...
Harrington
Dixon
Massoli

I was just explaining why I thought so. I am in no way saying you are wrong, incorrect, or dumb for thinking that.

ok. gotcha.
interestingly, i don't post on MSB very often, but i disagree with everything you post. On OTB on SECr, i do agree with you.

John Walker was even worse at CB than the Tings were at safety

What gets lost is that usc's offense destroyed an excellent Texas defense, save for the last 4th down play. The usc defense that vy shredded wasn't that good.
Texas was ranked as the #5 total D in the nation.
USC was #29.
USC was #1 offense, Texas was #2.
In hindsight, it wasn't an upset.

USC 2005 was a paper tiger with possibly the best college offense of the modern era
it masked a LOT of issues (esp on D) throughout the season
I think the curb-stomping humilation on national TV of an SEC team to start the year - gave even more hype to that USC team apart from the winning streak and defending national champs.
People started to say, they just beat Arkansas like it was Idaho State...who can stop these guys?
Well USC couldn't stop Notre Dame on D and needed a miracle to win.
And they couldn't stop Fresno State on D and needed Heisman moments from Reggie Bush to win.

VY was money in big games. I've never seen anything like what he did to a USC team that many were calling the best of all time going into the game.

That 05 usc offense is the greatest college offense I've ever seen.
As I've said multiple times, the most impressive thing is the stats they achieved by using a conventional pro style offense. Their fullbacks and tight ends were just as effective as their wideouts and tailbacks.
