Respectful move
Nah, I seriously doubt Stewart made this decision on his own.
More than likely outside pressure and NASCAR made the decision for him

It's a terrible thing BUT stay in your car or wait until the track is clear! Wtf?!
Posted on 8/10/14 at 9:23 am to undecided
Well someone around him made the decision, and it was the right one

Zippy is on ESPN right now.

He got too close to an open wheeled vehicle and he got dead. That's it.
This seems to be lost on people for some reason.
For those defending the dead idiot, why is walking onto a live track with cars approaching? I'm sure there's something in the NASCAR by-laws that prohibits pedestrians from walking onto the track, for those born without common sense.

his sponsors changed his mind for him.
Most likely the case.
Better for him to stay put of the public eye at the moment, anyways.

Geez...some of you people just want him to be the a-hole. He can't win no matter what he does from here on out or whatever evidence vindicating him comes to light.

In my limited NASCAR watching experience, I've seen plenty of people on the track

Jesus. Couldn't have been him, huh?

Just terrible all the way around. No doubt the kid should have stayed in his car, but I don't see how anyone can watch that video and realize Tony hits the gas when he gets to the kid. I think it was an intimidation attempt gone horribly wrong.

Was responding to another poster saying that someone made the decision for him. Nice try

Tragedy. Plain and simple

Hate to tell you, but NASCAR has jurisdiction to do whatever the hell it wants pertaining to races in its league. Its a private organization who makes its own rules. If NASCAR wants to sit Tony Stewart out because he has a bad haircut, they can do that. More likely, this would be an "image of NASCAR" type of decision...

So there was nothing that happened that made his car react like it did?

He didn't stand in front of TS car either. TS knew he (Ward) was pissed. Now, again, this could have waited until the race was over, and Ward go over to TS and sucker punched him. But Wards anger and lack of thinking, got him kilt. TS could have stopped and just sat there, while Ward released his anger and moved on. Ward would be alive, and this would be forgotten by Monday.

Swerve. Not lose speed when it hit the other driver, etc.

In that hypothetical, it would be a domestic abuse incident, not a workplace accident.
NASCAR doesn't have the authority to take action against Stewart in this scenario. You are comparing apples to oranges.
NASCAR has total authority over their drivers. And I'm surprised you would think otherwise
quote:
Incorrect. This is an incident that occurred under the jurisdiction of another racing entity, not just an off-track incident. You're comparing apples to oranges once again.
And yet it's an incident NASCAR and the rest of the public are fully aware of. Had they allowed Stewart to race today they would have looked like shite and deservedly so.
I like you TBird but your talking complete bullshite right now

No you haven't, and even if you have, was there ever a time where you seen one drive jumping in front of and pointing his finger at an oncoming car?

quote:I don't think suspending him "pending an investigation" is a terrible move.
Suspending him would imply that he did something wrong, and that hasn't been determined.
It doesn't imply guilt to me. Might to others though.
ETA: Irrelevant now.
