I don't know whether it has been discussed on here because there are so many pages but I've seen a lot of sprint car races where during cautions drivers will gun the cars for short bursts. Anyone know why--does it have anything to do with conditioning the tires?

It's to intimidate/run-over rookies

I know they have to push start them so I didn't know if it related to the engine or tires. I've also seen them go up toward the top of the track out of the racing groove and spin the tires during cautions.
