I can see it either way. Need more evidence. The thing with Stewart was the accelerating right as passing. May have been scaring. May have not seen him(which I doubt because with a wreck you are going to keep an eye towards it when passing).
Maybe he saw him at the last second and tried to get out of the way.

Seemed like Tony accelerated right towards his direction. Why would you accelerate to avoid something/someone? Need more video evidence but I think Tony fricked up here. I've seen drivers, even Stewart, run up to cars before and not get run over.
Check out the gifs (which don't have audio). You can't tell what happens prior to the collision.

Apparently not in this type of racing.

What do you mean not in this type of racing?

Yes in this type of racing.

I'm 90% sure the Empire Super Sprint series uses the Raceiever Radio system.

Idiots in this thread think these sprint cars steer like the standard vehicle

It's amazing

Only Tony Stewart truly knows if he could have done a better job of avoiding him. It's something he will have to live with for the rest if his life. He played a part in a young man losing his life.

My take also

Exactly what the sentence says. Someone stated earlier that they don't use radios in this type of racing. I'm not verifying that statement. Just relaying.

No need to get defensive. We can talk like adults in here.

When did they transition to radios in the cars? I couldn't imagine trying to hear a damn thing haha.

There has been 1 way radios in the cars for the last 10 years probably, at least in the top end series. A lot of tracks use them now too.

No doubt. Doesn't mean he knows that the driver has exited the vehicle and is standing in the middle of the track.

But it does greatly diminish the idea that TS may not have seen him....since he is most likely focused on the car he put in the wall to see if there is a reaction coming.

I'm not willing to say that. There might be mud/dirt all over his visor. His view might have been blocked by the car(s) ahead. Lots of things might have prevented him from seeing the dude in the middle of track.

You are correct about the radio. Smaller outfits don't use them, and I assumed everyone didn't

I wonder how they can even hear over those engines. It's bad enough being in the stands

You don't understand sprit cars on a dirt track is the standard response here

I seriously doubt this is the number one concern.

Most are not assuming that. Multiple people have said who are familiar with these races that drivers get out a good bit when angry. How come no one has died before?

From the ESS rulebook:

quote:

G.28 Radios – On-board, one way radios, approved by the Technical Inspector, must be used. Only ESS officials may communicate with drivers using the on-board radio system. Official ESS radio communications overheard by others will not be used as the basis of a protest, nor will they be used in support of a protest.

So there is a chance they were telling him about the dude out of his car. Who knows though.

I'm loving the amount of spin in this thread. Other worldly stuff.

So I'm guessing Tony Stewart didn't aim his car at this kid (other drivers dodged the kid, guess they didn't get mud on their windows!!!) and that wasn't the sound of him accelerating and his car increasing in speed.

I guess Tony Stewart is not known for arrogance and for confrontation as well.

You guys are spinning shite and making things up to fit the narrative you desire. Had that been the 20 year old who hit and killed Tony Stewart in the same fashion you, ESPN (despicable) and the rest of the world giving Tony a free pass would be asking for the Ward Jr's head.

This is pathetic, but par the course for this country. Sadly.

I have eyes...and can hear. Just what I saw and heard in the video. Maybe I'm wrong. Like I said, only TS knows for sure.
