Chaz, sounds like you are in a great organization. Just curious how they put a team like that together. Do they recruit from across the region/state for their top teams? Cuts from year to year? Just always interested in how different top teams do things.

This organization is awesome at showcasing our talents to universities all over the country in order to promote the players.
Vlad Guerreo did it with a stick and milk jug.

Having 4 million people to pull from doesn't hurt

well, every year we play a lot of baseball around the area (that's pretty big). we win a lot of games [this weekend we competed in a majors-only tournament and we won in the final 15-0 after 3 innings (we beat our big rival in the semis)]. the kids that play us take note of the team and want to be a tiger.
every fall, we put on our unis and try out for our own team in an open-to-the-public tryout. the other kids who really want to be a tiger come out and join us in their uniforms, and if they are ballplayers who love the game and they don't bring any crazy-arse family members with them, they prove that they are better than a kid wearing our tiger uniforms. they occasionally bump a kid.
circle of life
right now, we have 7 awesome players (and i do mean "eye of the tiger" awesome) and 4 really good players on the team.
the instruction is top-notch. when you see our defense in a run-down or doubling-out a diving line drive or robbing a kid of a single by throwing him out at first, you know that they are receiving damn good instruction.

Have you guys faced the Houston Heat much over the past few years?

not yet...they any good?
this weekend is a big tournament here in Dallas over 150 teams in all. I'm not sure how we'll fair, but we're working our tails off to get ready for it this weekend.

I umped a 12 year year old team out of Houston last year in Lafayette ... that team was legit. They had three guys who could throw 75+ from 45 feet, and no, I'm not exagerating.

But I thought the coaches in this organization turned all players into top round MLB draft picks? Are you telling me that if a player isn't good enough, the coaches just cut them? Sounds like the organization isn't building players, they're just recruiting players.

Banditos Black. We beat them on Saturday and they came back and won the tourney.

In a three-year span from 1996-99, Andrews performed Tommy John surgery on 164 pitchers, 19 of whom were high school aged or younger. From 2004-07, that number had jumped to 588 pitchers, 146 of whom were high school or youth league players — a seven-fold increase.
We are fortunate to have Andrews and company here in Birmingham. In fact, one of Andrews' doctors has coached my son in baseball for several seasons. We take part in a motion study tracking pitchers from little league on. We have to go every year and fill out a survey on innings pitched and have slow motion video taken of the kid pitching. There are close to (30) kids in the study.
Side note: Andrews wrote our ball park's pitch count rules. The other orthopedic surgeon I mentioned limits his kids to (60) pitches in a weekend. The USSSA rules regarding innings pitched are complete trash.

our boys have to make the team every season. i haven't seen a hard-working kid get cut yet (even if he wasn't the best kid on the team).
(i have nothing to do with evaluation or selection)

Played with Latin players who would hit bottle caps spun at them. Could not be fooled at the plate. Quickest hands Ive ever seen.

I know that I've been the bad guy in this thread, and I truthfully mean no disrespect to your child. I'm quite certain that he is a great ball player. I just got turned off when I read your posts on two different boards last night praising the organization that your kid plays for. In no way do I think that your team is the only group doing this, but I just get appalled with what I see around the ball park with very young kids 6, 7, and 8 years old and their parents attitude towards youth baseball. I think many are misguided when the believe that their kid has to play this sport year around or they will fall behind. I would just like to see a little perspective. So what if the kid falls behind as a 8 or 9 year old. Let them be kids. There will be plenty of time to catch up by the time the kids get to high school.

especially considering our mutual admiration for the Tigers pictured above. in our case, we make the team at tryouts in the fall. coaches know we play football and basketball and work with our schedules, but when spring rolls around, it's all business and all baseball.

All I needed to hear.....why not keep the loyal/hardworking guys around and not let a ringer from another team come in and take his spot?
Not doubting the organization isn't run respectfully...but all they are doing is stock-piling talent....plain and simple.
Not that impressive in my book...you SHOULD win with the best of the best players, at that age.
And no way in hell $550 pays for all of the tournaments and stuff you are playing.......are u telling me that's ALL they pay and no fundraising/sponsorships/etc are needed?
Regardless...best of luck to your son and the Tigers.

i said $550 is the club fee

we already know which kids are potential bumpees during the season. some just seem to lose interest. like i've said, i've never seen a kid put forth serious effort lose a spot, and we've got a really small kid on the team that i know would not get a second callback at any other team in the area [he's all heart].

nobody is celebrating anything yet. all are pretty well-grounded kids who know how long the season is and how much work is needed to secure that position all the way to July.
