Sorry to hear it. My uncle went in for a minimally invasive ablation surgery and passed away a few days later from a 0.25% chance, esophageal perforation during the procedure.

And these are the reasons why I never want to have surgeries/procedures. I’ve been blessed in my young life, to have never needed to be operated on. Just broken bones, sprains, concussions, stitches, staples, etc from being a kid, but never have they had to cut me open in any way.

He was one of the younger brothers of former NBA All Star Sharif Abdur-Rahim. Both went to my high school. He was two years behind me in high school and a pretty good player himself. Terrible news to hear.

It was complications from surgery apparently. Obviously that could mean a lot of things.

most likely infection if i had to guess based on them saying it was an aggressive illness post-surgery. Can happen very quickly

I feel so bad for his family, his team, and the university. Such awful news and so young too.

Guy was a rising star in the coaching ranks.
RIP and prayers for his family and friends. 43 is too young.

Sepsis maybe? I'm genuinely curious as to what would be considered an aggressive illness.

Sharif Abdur-Rahim.

Was a big fan of his. Was a big sports card collector then and in what proved to be an epic draft class that coincided with a legendary Topps chrome set, I chose him as my hoard. Bad choice obviously considering Iverson and Kobe were in that class but still great times chasing down as many as I could. Before the grading craze ruined a once great hobby.

I had the same surgery but in 2 ways...one went through my groin and the other was through my my chest. In the process of going through my chest they paralyzed my diaphragm permanently and here I am. I also had 2 blood clots, one was in my heart. I am thankful daily and at 52 years old I am way to young to be disabled.
