It really seems like a no brainer to me. Guy has taken one of the worst teams in the conference and turned them into legitimate conference title contenders in a matter of weeks. It's crazy how much of a turnaround he's caused at SC. If you're the AD you have no choice but to keep him IMO.

Imagine if they decide to go with someone else and he doesn't do well...fans and players alike will be PISSED that Coach O didn't get a shot. The guy has already proven he can recruit like mad, the players love playing for him, he's been hugely successful so far, what more can you ask in a coach?

I agree they should. He has the team believing in him and it shows on the field.

Only problem is that USC already said they are going to pay their new head coach $6 mill a year. Stupid move by them. Orgeron is a good coach and i like him a lot, but hes not worth $6 mill a year, only about 3 coaches in all of football is worth that $$$. So they either offer him the contract but at way less than $6mill, which is a slap in the face to Orgeron. Or they offer him the $6mill a year, which would be overpaying for Orgeron by about $3 mill.

Almost a lose-lose for USC.

They can do better. Coach O is doing a great job cementing his resume to he a head coach at a smaller school if that's what he wants to do, though.

Meh, coaching changes usually go one of two ways

Players either just pack it in and give up on the season

Or players rally around the interim guy now that they have "something to play for" and have a new found fire and passion.

Props to him for making it the latter but it doesn't mean he's the long term answer

Ole Miss is successful now because of the foundation that O built.

USC needs to make a hire that will benefit them for the next 6 years, not just this upcoming one.

Most likely.

People don't understand how demoralized the team was under Kiffin.

Games were like taking an exam...from a teacher with no personality.

Coach O has taken the talent...and let them loose and free and brought an energy.

I'm not saying he can't build and maintain a program...

But hiring him just based off of the past weeks is poor analysis...

Part of the success is simply a cathartic freedom from Kiffin.

Don't let temporary "in the moment" emotion affect your hiring method.

Most fans anticipated the team would be better w/o Kiffin.

What happens when the hysteria and Kiffin backlash fades from the players and program?

How good is Coach O as just a regular old coach?

Would be a really poor decision to keep him. I don't think that they will.

Imagine if they go with him and he doesn't do well. Fans will be really pissed, this is USC they should be abled to hire a proven head coach.

Not really. The fans want to keep him. He's at least earned a shot.

Besides, if you look at USC last two head coaching hires (Caroll and Kiffin) it's not like either was "proven".

Coach O's coaching resume says a lot more about his abilities to be a HC than 5 games at a top flight school like USC. He would have the Trojans on probation in 2-3 yrs and they would be back where they were with LK. He's a great recruiter because he cheats his arse off. Admittedly, his persona is fun and makes people feel good. And then over time, the reality of what he really is as a coach and a person sets in.

We all saw Coach O's abilities as a head coach when he was at Ole Miss. A great recruiter but a below average coach. Give him a couple of years and he will have that program foundering.

Just because he wasn't successful in the SEC doesn't mean he can't be in the PAC 12. He would have much more of a talent advantage at USC.

I don't claim to know much about what USC fans want, but do they really? That's not very wise. And the fans aren't the ones who will be held accountable if it's a bad hire. So, pick the right coach, not the guy the fans want.

Pete Carroll wasn't proven? Took a couple of teams to the playoffs in the NFL. Pretty proven to me.

I live in CA so I know tons of SC fans. About half are bandwagon idiots but the other half are very reasonable guys. It's the reasonable guys for the most part that want to keep coach O.

Also you'd be surprised at how many SC fans were not happy with the Carroll hire.

USC can get whoever they want.

The worst hire of the SEC is not that guy. Keep him on staff, but he's not the guy

He was also at the runt of the SEC west and had to compete with heavyweights. There are no other real juggernauts in the pac 12. There are some great programs but none dwarf USC like the LSUs, Bamas, Auburns of the world do to ole miss.
