USC Question

Let me reiterate the fact that I don't hate USC because of the whole '03 issue. I do, however, have a serious issue with the media lovefest. I don't have this "LSU infatuation" with SC.
But someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't USC losing 9 of 11 starters next year? if I'm correct here, this is the kind of shite that just boggles my mind. If I'm wrong, my apologies and I'll pretend i didn't even start this thread.

The buzz: Mark Sanchez's departure causes at least a little bit of concern about the offense. But the defense should be mighty stout again.

how many years has a Pete Carroll team NOT finished in the top 4?

yes, that's right: only his first year
only his first year

Yes, they do lose 9/11 starters. But I think two of their better ones return. And when you sign 6, 5 star players a year you don't lose much. I think #4 is right for them (we know its unlikely they lose more than twice; with or without a tough schedule).
Plus, I can't complain when they have 2008 unranked LSU, preseason #5.

Not 9 of 11. Actually seven or eight depending on how you define Pinkard who get a 6th year of eligibility. All-AMerican Mayes coming back. One more to boot. Many 4 and 5*s who saw great playing time on D last year.
10 of 11 return on offense as well.

Their offense wasn't spectacular or anything in 2008 lol.
Prerankings are retarded.

exactly. people saying you are an amazing player may get you all-american status but it doesn't make you an all american.

True. See Dorsey.

the guy dominated on 2 knees. was an All-SEC player on 1 knee.
I think Rey M. is a great LB and griffin is going to be pretty good, but Mays is all hype. I've hated him since watching him play dirty and like a bitch against Oregon St. Once USC was down he started playing dirty and running his mouth.

The entire secondary returns as well as many guys that got substantial playing time along the line like Everson Griffin.
The loss of all the LBs is what is going to be felt the most but then again the entire offense returns except for the QB which is better than the year before when they lost 8 players off the offense and 4 off the defense.
And whats this media lovefest, I must have missed something, all year USC was barely even talked about and all we heard was how great Florida and the Fraud 12 was.

I wouldnt get in to it either. This fabricated notion of a media lovefest with USC is a joke.
Lets examine a few facts from THIS year alone.
USC trounces Washington St 69-0, barely a highlight and not discussed.
Florida trashes Citadel 70-19 and its "there goes Florida again, red hot, cant be stopped, how do they do it?!?!"
USC beats a good Cal team 17-3: conclusion USC is playing bad and the question is posed, whats wrong with USC
OU beats a Kansas team by 14 points while allowing over 500 yards and the question is asked, "can anything stop OUs offense?!!?!?"
USC trashes UDub, no mention, another ho hum win
OU trashes UDub, Sooners are off to a great start and making a statement.
All year USC was eliminated from the discussion of the NCG and it was a forgone conclusion that they would be playing in the Rose Bowl for losing on the road to a ranked team.
The only people that believe there is some type of media favor are obsessed SEC fans that think the only thing that should be talked about is the SEC.

I can't believe you're serious about that. I'm honestly dumbfounded that you believe that.

USC sure gets hosed in the polls for this so call love fest. To think that before the bowls Bama was ranked ahead of USC for beating one ranked team.
The only lovefest is the one for every team in the SEC.

Pagan, i really want to argue with you but i just don't care about USC enough. They are so 2004.
Posted on 1/21/09 at 12:36 pm to Prominentwon
I don't have a problem with them being #5 in a poll like that because they do have so much talent and depth. LSU at 5 based on a QB with 2 whole starts is a bigger stretch imo.
I, like you have no problem with USC over 2003, in 2002 I was actully gald to see them come back and for Carroll who I think was unfairlly attack by "fans".
What bugs me is stuff like the Rose Bowl wrap-up, where even Chris Fowler was getting peeved by Corso's comments (No one see's them, pfft). Its been the same thing 3 years in a row from SC, they lose a game to a some Pac 10 team they should beat (UCLA 06, Stanford
07 and OSU 08) that knocks them out of he BCS CG. Then the pound some happless Big 10 team in the Rose bowl (Remember SEC-Big 10 BCS CG's in 06 and 07) and everyone gets orgasmic over how great they are and how they are the best etc.
They also have an advantage over everyone else most seasons, if they are undefeated, they will be #1, no matter who else is undefeated. But they do not have as much room for error as the SEC or Big 12 if they lose. So the mission is simple for USC, win them all and you are all but assured of a spot in the BCS CG.
