No. Not even man. Who do you think plays in the CFL? Maybe the very top college teams would be on par but High Schools dude? Not a chance.

I meant in popularity, I would argue that Texas HS football has a bigger following and fanbase than most CFL teams and the MLS is about on par with the CFL.

Just forget the HS thing. Its not even comparative. I think the largest HS stadium in texas holds like 20-25k. The CFL draws in the the 30ks give or take.

Popularity for college over CFL, well yea. But you were talking about the quality of the league in your original post I responded to.

MLS will catch the NHL soon to very soon in ratings and attendance. Hell, it may even beat the NHL on an average/game based scale. It will then move towards the NBA and overtake that league in 10-15 years.

This is where people start to bash soccer fans for being absurd. Soccer is played in outdoor stadiums, many fitted as NFL stadiums that can handle 70k+ while NHL/NBA is relegated to arenas aside from the occasional winter classic.

But to say you'll pass the top tier pro leagues with what is a minor league?

Most people watching are watching because the US is competing in an international competition. Most aren't going to stick around for the MLS.

Dont know man. MLS averaged 18,608 last season.

NBA averaged 17,407.

TV ratings will take a while to mature for the MLS.

The NHL and NBA are squarely in the sites of the MLS. Folks can continue to shake their heads and such but the growth is right there plain as day to see.

Hell, Im a huge huge hockey fan and I can see the writing on the wall that the MLS will surpass the NHL soon.

I'm not denying or even against the growth. I think it's good to have a diversified sports landscape.

The NBA is growing in popularity and relevance internationally, in case you hadn't noticed.

You dont understand what you are talking about and thats ok. Do some research.

Why is what I said a reason to "bash soccer fans" WTF is wrong with you, seriously? Are you incapable of having a discussion that has a view and opinion contrary to your own?

No

The NBA just had it's second highest rated first round ever. Finals ratings were up even though 4 of the games turned into blowouts.

Plus they have a new TV deal coming up that is likely going to absurd.

One is played in outdoor stadiums (many NFL stadiums), the other is played in arenas.

Apples and oranges.

The ratings and tv deals aren't even close.

Where am I bashing fans in this?

You do realize you're being just as confrontational as the non-soccer fans you're debating, correct?

You like soccer. Good for you. The sport is growing, and that's wonderful. Be happy with that.

The majority of sports fans in this country will continue to root fervently for the US in international competition, then go back to supporting their primary sports.

And that's ok.

This whole "let's pit one sport against another" argument is the most stupid thing ever, IMO.

Yea, its not the same, I agree, MLS plays half the games the NBA does etc but it can be used as a metric for growth and show trends, NBA down, MLS up.

Really man, grammar smack? frick dude. Tbird, I thought you were above that shite. Auto correct and shite.

Thats cool. Im not against the NBA. Soccer is already popular around the world, in case you didnt notice.

You're fricking insane if you think the MLS will ever be as big as the NHL and NBA

Nah man. All I said was that soccer was growing and would catch the NHL soon and head towards the NBA.

I have been fairly benign in this conversation. You hit me with the grammar smack and the other guy came at me with "This is why soccer fans are bashed" Then I responded.

Im not pitting one sport against another. Just using current sports as to contrast as a metric to show soccer's growth.

Im a huge sports fan. All the major sports.

Except these trends don't exist. The NBA is experiencing some of their best numbers since the Jordan era.

Not in this instance. Hence, "apples to oranges."

You thought incorrectly. I'm a homeschool grad--you know this. Par for the course. Calm yourself.

I never denied this.

Again, settle down. I'm not anti-soccer. You're being rather hasty in coming to abrasive conclusions.

Soccer has been popular internationally for eons. The NBA has recently taken off in a big way thanks to the success of international players. Go check the articles worldwide covering the home nations of the Spurs' players or the Heat's head coach.

THe NBA will be a long uphill climb but the NHL isnt nearly as popular as you give it credit. Especially in the high growth areas of the country.
