Popovich shouldn't be the coach for the Olympics in all honesty. He's a good NBA coach but obviously lost in the international game.

I can’t think of a guy who could be better for the job, unless we went with a Euroleague coach.

At least Pop gets respect from players. I'm not convinced a Euroleague coach would get the same level of respect.

This is literally the worst finish by a US team in the World Cup ever and the worst in any international competition in a long long time, and you think he did a better job than anyone else could have?

Maybe the players respected him but they played like shite for him.

Before Pop said a word about politics, this board would have almost universally said Pop was the best coach in the NBA. If you look at the top coaches in sports, the clear names that would come up over and over would have been K, Saban, Belichick, and Popovich.

This is the worst team the US has sent to international competition since 1998. Before 1988, the US lost one rigged game in the history of basketball and I am quite confident any idiot on the MSB could have coasted to gold before John Thompson lost in Seoul.

1992, 1994, 1996, 2000 we used pros for the first time and coasted. 1998 was a weird outlier because of a lockout and we got Third with CBA players.

2002 was actually the worst performance of all time: 7th place on home soil under George Karl. 2004 was the worst coaching job with Larry Brown misusing talent on a young team. But that team lost games to much worse teams teams including Italy and Puerto Rico.

2006-16 was the K era. One loss in 2006 to Greece.

I actually think 2002-08 had stronger international teams than now but the difference is close. Meanwhile this is by far the worst NBA squad we’ve sent.

Pop’s strength is coaching ball movement generally. Which coach would have been better based on their resume? I am eagerly anticipating the names coming up.

Based on resume? I don't know.

All I'm telling you is he did a poor job of coaching this team and should not be rewarded with the Olympic team.

Guys that declined to play in this should be left off the Olympics roster

So we're going to take this same team to Tokyo? Because unless you want to do that really the only guys that would be eligible are guys that were cut from this team or guys so far down the pecking order that they weren't even considered for this roster, which was obviously well below par for what team USA usually fields.

Joe Harris is not only on this team, but a key player on it.
He was barely even a serviceable NBA player 2 years ago.

I don't even know who Derrick White is. Literally no clue.

Can this team even field 5 guys that have made an all star team at some point? There is no difference in nba talent between the US and the other teams, and in some instances, they are the lesser talented team.

ALl that being said, glad none of my Pelicans players went waste time on this event. I'd rather they be in New Orleans working out.
