Wow...you haven't been to the US Open in 5 whole years. Poor you! Count me as among the jealous.

Congressional is such an awesome set up. I went to most of Tiger's AT&T tournaments held there.

Damn, dude...do you travel around to golf tourneys or something?

Els, Love, Furyk: Fan favorites and past major winners, once among the game's elite. Could make a run (especially Furyk), but probably just not gonna happen.

I don't belive this. They aren't FAR apart but its a JOB for Steve. He will go where he can work. Think about it.

Oh absolutely. I'm just referring to comments made by both Tiger AND Stevie about how close of friends they are. Tiger supports all his racing stuff down under, and well of course, Stevie works with Tiger's career.

I am not sure if this has been posted but Michael Smith a guy from Lafayette went thru regionals and sectionals to qualify for the Open. Shot 64 on the last day of sectionals to win it and qualify. He played at U LaLa and is a great guy and could not be more deserving. No matter the outcome, he will always be able to say he played in the Open.

No, I'm just close to DC being in PA. The AT&T tournaments were always dirt cheap ticket wise so it always made sense to just go.

The only thing that stinks though is that Tiger missed the cut at Winged Foot that year and now I won't see him at Congressional. I know, poor me. I'm really hoping Bubba is going to be in it on Sunday, he's a lot of fun to follow and he's starting to generate some crowds.

Another interesting tidbit:

This week at Congressional will also be the first week that Christian Donald has worked (caddying) for world No. 3 Martin Kaymer. Interestingly, Kaymer will play the first two rounds with world No. 1 Luke Donald, Christian’s brother and former boss

My pics this week are Luke Donald or Lee Westood (I know stretch, right?)

David Toms is a sleeper if he can get back to driving the ball like he did at Colonial and the Players.

I like Phil, but he is just too inconsistent off the tee. You can't hit 50% of the fairways and win an Open.

He's put a driving 2 iron in his bag for that reason this week. He used it at the Memorial last week. I like Phil a lot in this situation...when no one is picking him. Sort of like Augusta last year.

I don't see Toms winning. He's not long enough

I really like Phil to win this time

The courses they won on you didn't have to bomb the ball out there to win. To win at Congressional you need to be able to hit the ball in the air with the long irons and stop it like Ernie did so well against Lehman when he won it. I see Phil and Hunter having a good week. I've got Sergio as my dark horse based on ball striking ability alone.

I read that the setup at Congressional this year will be the longest Open ever.

I look for Bubba and DJ to play well due to their length. I think DJ might just get over that hump of getting his first Major/getting past the blowups.

Rory will play well early but I think his last two majors blow ups are still in his head.
