Don't particularly care for Djokovic, but he's without a doubt the GOAT.

As someone who has actually paid a fair amount of attention to tennis and has seen Djokovic play live, it is interesting how for so many years Nadal and Federer competed for GOAT status only to have Novak find another gear around 2011 and pass them both.

At least Nadal is the clay GOAT.

Loved the US open. Is it just me that all these celebrities showing up at US open lessens the intensity? It has become like a party at Hamptons.

If the network didn't spend the amount of time they do showing their faces, you would never know they were there. Over the week they showed Ben Stiller so much you would have thought he coached every player in the tournament

We get it ESPN. It's NYC and there's celebrities

Yeah, ESPN's constant celeb shots feel very try-hard.

"Hey viewers! These famous people are at the US Open, so it MUST be a big deal!" It's almost patronizing.

Friday night's performance had me believing Med was dialed in enough to push Novak today, but it obviously didn't happen. Would've been interesting to see if things had played out differently if Med won the 2nd set tiebreak.

Alcaraz probably matches up better with Djokovic than Med because he doesn't play so far back. But, Med was pretty freaking good in that second set, he just couldn't finish in the clutch. I'm not sure Alcaraz could have done much better today.

Congrats to Nole superfan SirWinston. It's funny how Fedtards and Rafa fanboys fought so many years over who is better, and none of that matters now.

Yep. That TB was basically the match.

Meddy is too stubborn of a player. Refuses to change tactics and doubles down on his original game plan when he starts struggling.

Now it's the time of year where tennis viewership drops to it's low. Davis Cup next week. Most the top players are sitting out. Djokovic technically hasn't pulled out. After that Tiafoe, Paul, De Minaur are the highest ranked players participating.

How isnhe not already? He started taking over when the other 2 were still at the top and has 24 freaking majors and 2 opportunities taken from him.

He has 10 more that Pete, 20 years ago that wasn't even possible.

Were you there today? I'm really hoping to go to Wimbledon and Australia to catch Djoko, but I am definitely going to try to go to USO next year.

Novak dominating ATP at age 36 is the greatest age related sporting achievement of all time. It’s beyond comprehension really and goes against the entire history of the game.

Novak really is the Lance Armstrong of his sport.

I think he wants at least 5 of each major, so 2 more french and one more uso.

No, I was at both semis.

I had a great time, but the event has some major logistics issues. They either let way too many people onto the grounds or just can't handle the crowds. They had a full hour between the day session and night session and it still wasn't enough time to get people out and then into the stadium. We didn't have much time between both sessions to get food and drinks because of the lines. On changeovers, you basically have time to either go the bathroom or get food and drinks, but not both. If I go again, I will probably do it earlier in the tournament like I did a few years ago when there is not so much pressure to watch all the action.

I watched highlights on YouTube earlier since I missed the match yesterday, and this is the top comment:
quote:

Djokovic has been ranked world No. 1 for a record total of 389 weeks in a record 12 different years, and finished as the year-end No. 1 a record seven times. Djokovic has won an all-time record 24 Grand Slam men's singles titles, including a record ten Australian Open titles. Overall, he has won 96 singles titles, including a record 69 Big Titles (24 majors, a record 39 Masters, and a joint-record six ATP Finals). Djokovic is the only man in tennis history to be the reigning champion of all four majors at once across three different surfaces. In singles, he is the only man to achieve a triple Career Grand Slam, and the only player to complete a career Golden Masters, a feat he has achieved twice. A winning h2h vs Federer and Nadal. GOAT. End of discussion.

That's pretty insane when you think about who his contemporaries were. He's gotta be the GOAT, and honestly it's not really close at this point.

The line outside the gates around 6pm everyday was INSANE

We left Friday night at 6:30 to go to the Mets game, and the line was from the us open gates all the way to the Mets parking lot!

That’s roughly half a mile.

Never say never when it comes to Djokovic. But I don't see much of a chance of him winning 2 more French Opens. Margins are too slim, especially on mud. He had a VERY favorable draw for this years US Open and took full advantage. Ruud, Rune, Tsitsipas, all out by the end of the 2nd round. The only seeded players he faced on his way to the Finals was Djere (32) and Fritz (9). That's not to say he would have lost to any of those other players in his half, but all it takes is one slip up to end a run. I mean, Laslo Djere had Djokovic down 2-0 before waking up.
