Serious question- can the ACC legally dissolve, leaving say Fla State and Clemson to jump to the SEC, and then within a year the remainder of the teams reform as some different conference? Not that I can see any sane reason for that to happen-
but could it?

If the members voted to I don't see why they couldn't but why on earth they would do that I have no idea. Clemson/FSU are what bring the value to the greater group

There are not enough members who are or who will be promised a better situation to choose to break up the ACC right now.

Just like the PAC, Big Ten and Big XII will have their pick of who’s left of the ACC… and then whoever’s left can merge into the Big East

I don’t see a situation where the rest of the ACC outside of Clemson/FSU want to leave right now. Too much unknown to get left in the dust

UNC is more attractive than those two from a long term investment stand point for the Power 2. Outside of them, no one else (even Clemson and FSU to some extent) are guaranteed a seat with the top 3 conferences right now. Sure, some likely get a lifeline but not enough to vote to end the ACC right now.

Top three? That’s dumb, Miami, Clemson and fsu at minimum will have auto invites to the big 12.

That said the next level is the culling of the dregs. They will replace the Michigan states and Mississippi states of the world in the sec and b1g

So If the ACC collapses, how will the B1G be able to take the Curse, Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, Miami, FSU, and GT? Because we know the will go after all of them

You get my point though. The Big 12 is not better for Clemson, FSU and Miami than their current situation. And if all they can get is the Big 12, that means the other ACC members they need to vote to end the conference to go there aren't going there. Those 3 have no reason to go anywhere except the Big 2 to improve their situation, and they can't get there.

The ACC is stuck.

So, is anybody happier right now than Houston, Cincy, BYU and UCF?
Because they took a shot, gave CPR to the dying Big 12, and saved it.
And now the Big 12 has just added 4 Pac 12 (read: legitimate "power conference") teams, and might be healthier top-to-bottom than the ACC.

Meanwhile, the Pac 12 imploded, leaving a few West Coast refugees saying "oh shite". They're now on the outside looking in, because for practical geographic purposes, you're going to need to be a Top 20 team for any major conference to consider taking you.

Why would Big Ten go after anyone except UNC, UVA, FSU, and Clemson?
