There was an article a while back showing how the younger umps were more accurate in their calling balls/strikes as compared to the older ones. What sucks about this is that the older ones have tenure and are assigned the big games. Maybe have a cognitive test or something to determine if they are still fit to work the game.

But I agree with OP, it seems to be getting worse and worse each year going by the eye test.

Another thing too is a good pitcher will adapt and not just throw a meatball down the middle.

hate the people who defend its “you want to take the human element out of the game”

This idea went away with replay. We have the technology, but instead we make the bags bigger, put a runner on 2nd in extra innings, and tell pitchers how many batter they need to face.

yall realize its way way better than it has ever been? go watch some games from the 90s and you will understand

but frick man, hitters have to start swinging the bat too. wanting replay for a ball 1/2" outside is insane. swing the bat!!

i dont think umps are ruining the game at all, i think people whining about the umps are

now the ego thing with the umps where if you say one thing you are gone...yea that has to stop. the rest..whatever, part of the game and the beauty of it.

Why can’t the implement the strike zone box to determine balls/strikes? The ump would still be needed for other things: hit batter, calls at the plate etc….

In every SEC series there is "that" guy, "hey everybody look at me my strike zone isnt even close to what the reg says".

The human element is still in the game and the home plate ump will have a critical role but take the bullshite out of balls and strikes.*

* I have been against ABS since its inception but the last couple of years has changed my mind.
