Dana White on the insane judging that scored Costa 49-46. It's slightly different because the state ath commissions provide the judges, but just imagine if any other major sports commissioner/president in the US ever said anything like this about their refs/officials /judges.

Arman is the only fighter that can grapple with Islam in 155, but I just don’t see him submitting him. Islam is also better on the feet.

His threat of the takedown allows him to strike better.

Poirier was a lot more passive on the feet tonight than he usually is because he was trying like hell to stay up.

I did. Just like he did vs Olivera and Volk. Before both of these fights people kept saying “Islam better not stand and strike”. They going to say it’s because of this takedown but it’s MMA. That and people holding on to that one time he got KOed years ago.

Khabib as a foreigner had the decency to come over and shake trumps hand. Rodgers born here with a cushy life acting like a baby.

Is that wrong?

ETA: he’s an effective striker because of the threat of the takedown, just like Lamar Jackson is an effective passer because of the threat of the run.

Yeah it was clear Dustin was having to account for islams takedowns. After he would throw a punch a lot of times he would duck down to be lower and ready. He did a great job handling islams wrestling tbh. Fought with a ton of heart.

Dana White speaks in a live presser like us jackasses post on the internet. Love how he throws being PC to the side and just says whatever he fricks on his mind. He’ll always have my respect for that

Khabib was asking DJT to stop the war in Gaza. Trump said he would do it if he was elected again.

Agree. We didn’t see Dustin’s best striking because of this. He fought a great fight, but he really needed to let it go in order to win. The problem with that is it opens him up for a take down and submission. Those Dagatani’s are so elite. It almost seems like you have to get lucky to win.

I think the problem is that you can't let your hands/strikes really go when you're defending your legs from takedown attempts. Can't really extend and drive power from your base. Having to defend against takedown was in Poirier's head in training and during the fight. But he has been top level elite, and been through wars, for years. Everyone has relative weaknesses and strengths. He's tough as nails, fights with controlled emotion, and has been a pleasure to watch. A couple potential opponents might prevent retirement now, but he should retire now.

I honestly think if Dustin had been able to escape that last takedown, he might have been able to put Islam away. That's what I was rooting for anyway. Could have been a similar finish to the Saint Denis fight, finally catch Islam out of gas and put him down for good. But Islam still had gas left in the tank.

Afterwards Poirier said that Islam's movement was weird like Khabib's, and that he wasn't able to land his punches as good as he would have liked.

Can't say much bad about Islam. Was very respectful and made a point of thanking Dustin twice. And he's the real deal, tough to beat.

Interesting to consider: a few months ago, the fight was supposed to be Gaethje vs. Islam. Does anyone think Gaethje would have fared much better against Islam than Poirier? Gaethje got submitted halfway quick against Khabib and Charles Oliveira, not sure he could defend against Islam's takedowns much better than Dustin did. Have to wonder if we'll ever see Gaethje vs. Islam now.

Poirier and gaethje should end his career with the gaethje trilogy as a co main on a big card. But he already said they agreed to not fight each other unless for the belt.

Volk called out DP today. Would be an interesting match up & could be a co-main or even headliner.

In the words of Matt Brown, how does that fight get DP's dick hard at this point?
