NCAA women's basketball is a joke. They need to drop at least half the teams from the division 1 level.

Oh they could cut them, but some men's programs would have to get zapped too.

They could be replaced with other women's teams.

News flash, coach- it has nothing to do with your amazing instructional ability. It has everything to do with the fact that UConn absorbs 90% of the elite talent in the entire sport and a high school coach could lead them to an undefeated program

Gino is the reason those players are there, though.

Gino can coach, I won’t deny that. With that said, I think you could find many people who could roll basketballs out for practice and let the players have at it, and still end the year in the Final Four and a better than 50% shot at a natty.

They’ve found a way to dominate the sport prior to it becoming true competition. I think this is much more unbalanced than when USC was winning the CWS, or even the early days of college football when Ivy schools were winning.

If anything, this sport has less parity than it used to, and that shouldn’t happen in a growing sport at the collegiate level. Even Tennessee didn’t own the sport like this. They would still be challenged by some SEC powers, a team like Texas or Baylor, etc.

Bluntly speaking, there’s absolutely nothing competitive or entertaining about this sport 98% of the time.

fricking a-hole. He just doesn't have any clue how UConn keeps winning, does he? News flash, coach- it has nothing to do with your amazing instructional ability. There are about 6-7 more teams who annually bring in elite talent but don't do shite.

Tennessee is a perfect example. When you have holly as your coach, none of the talent matters.

UCONN, Maryland, ND, Louisville, Baylor, Tennessee all have rosters of 5 stars/all americans

That last statement is pretty dumb

because UConn was one of 3 or 4 programs that actually invested in womens basketball when he started coaching. He asserted his dominance long before other schools even tried. Then his biggest competition, Pat Summitt, had to retire.

How successful has Tennessee been at replacing her? LSU had 5 consecutive Final Four appearances and fell off the cliff. Stanford has had good runs and so has Baylor. All in the same time frame or prior to this phenomenal run by UConn. He won 6 of his 11 titles concurrent to Pat Summitt.

He started at UConn in 1985 and didn't win his first championship until 1995.

The depth of talent is an issue, but Geno still is the one getting all the talent. And he's not a bum as a coach.

Well, two SEC schools played in the title game last year. UConn has won 6 of the last 10 titles. Alabama has won 5 of the last 10 football championships.

With the roster Geno recruited, maybe. But you can't argue that the sport is unbalanced and then also argue that any coach could have the same level of success.

Its like people don't realize that he's been at UConn since 1985. Geno's the reason that it's unbalanced. Women's basketball was fairly balanced when he started. It was fairly balanced through the majority of the 2000s. Sure they went on a title run from 2000-2005, but they weren't winning title games by 20-30 points. He's created the lack of competitive balance.

This is false. UConn had the top three picks of the WNBA draft last year. As has been stated in this thread, there are about 10 elite female college basketball players each year and UConn grabs between 5 and 8 of them.
