People outside of the LA area don't fully realize how hampered UCLA football is by its own history and ineptitude.

A national championship, Heisman winner, and a dozen Rose Bowl appearances are truly the signs of ineptitude.

They're in the midst of the longest championship drought in program history by far, but their history is what hampers them.

WTF?"Hampered by its history"...what does this even mean?As pointed by several posters, they have a pretty damn good history.

The only negatives I hear about their program is that the administration is very cheap and I also think they're hurt by not having an on campus facility

she is not half bad considering he is ugly, talks out of the side of his mouth, and could afford to lose some weight.

Tying into the mediocrity of Georgia Tech thread, how about UCLA?

Why are they never good? I mean nationally good.

Could be one of the most underachieving programs of all time.

I’ll never understand UCLA not being a perennial powerhouse in football. You are in the best part of LA and you play in the Rose Bowl.

I'll play: their facilities suck. The UCLA Wasserman Football Complex is worse than what ULL has. I'm completely serious.

UCLA

ULL

The Rose Bowl, while historic, is not a great venue to watch a game in, and is an hour away (traffic-wise) from the campus.

It's a great school, but it just doesn't have the kind of flashy facilities like Oregon that Chip was used to.

but they lost a rescheduled game to Miami.

Didn't Edge rush for 800 yards that game?

UCLA is like Nebraska, it's not coming back.

Except UCLA was never anything. Stick to crying about gas being at $2.40/gal.

A national championship?

A long long time ago, in a Galaxy far far away.

A championship when it was the PCC. A championship they won without playing in the Rose Bowl - let alone any bowl - sitting at home.

UCLA won the Conference and "National Championship" by beating...

A Naval training team from San Diego...some dudes at the base.
Kansas
Maryland
Stanford
Oregon State Agricultural College
Cal
Oregon
Washington
USC

They beat Washington 21-20...Washington went 2-8.

They have 4 outright Conference titles since 1976.

UCLA's entire history has been about upsetting USC. That makes their season.

People have said, USC-UCLA is like Alabama-Auburn in terms of winning - hell, UCLA wishes they were Auburn in that relationship.

But outsiders just see L.A. and Westwood and all the Nattys in basketball and assume UCLA is some sleeping giant or were some National power when the "gutty little Bruins" never were...hell, they don't have the history of Stanford or Cal or Washington either.

UCLA is not a football school...never been very good at it. 1 Heisman winner doesn't mean shite, especially when that Heisman winner lost the defacto National Championship game to OJ and USC, who should have won the Heisman...but they weren't giving it to juniors then.

UCLA's DNA is to upset teams, not to dominate. That's their history. One or two flukes doesn't change that.

They had the entire CFB world set up for them in 1998 when the Pac10 royally sucked and they still choked.
