Will never understand why Brees, who was severely underpaid all those seasons.. took so much backlash for being a 100 million quarterback when basically any starter is a 100 million QB.. it's the going rate. they have some really average QBs at the 100 million mark..

Brees over the past few seasons.. and one season he played through injury and he's only missed one game in a season.

2015
#1 in passing yards in the entire NFL
#7 in TDs
68.3% completion percentage

2014
#1 in passing yards in the entire NFL
#5 in TDs
#1 in completion percentage at a ridiculous 69.2%

2013
#2 in passing yards, broke 5k, second only because Manning was downright ridiculous
#2 in passing TDs, again only 2nd to Manning who had the most amazing season
68.6% competion percentage, higher than Manning

2012
#1 in passing yards, broke 5k
#1 in TDs with a ridiculous 43 passing TDs

2011
#1 in passing yards, broke 5k big time
#1 in TDs, with a ridiculous 46 TDs
# in completion percentage with a ridiculous 71.2%

He has put up such incredible stats and at least earns his money and even plays through injury. After that 2011 season, I believe he signed his 100 million dollar contract.. compared to most.. I'd say he has earned his pay.. Given the current scale for basically average NFL starters..

Any ways, congrats to Tyrod Taylor. I have no issue with it.

I just say all this, because of how much shite Brees took for his contract, yet average QBs are getting ridiculous contracts and they haven't even proven themselves like Brees had prior.. He earned his pay on his contributions prior.

Would you really want to commit long term to Tyrod Taylor? Why are teams so afraid of losing marginal QB starters in the league? Afraid you'll lose the magic that made you go 7-9/8-8 last year?

Yeah, but you don't HAVE to pay them that. Let him ride out his last year of his contract, if he shows out then franchise tag him, then see if he's foreeal or just Fitzpatrick 2.0. In the mean time get some young QB talent to develop and build your entire roster that can win despite QB talent and if he walks as a mid 30s QB, who cares? You probably got the best years of his career for scraps

And if he's for real, now you have to pay him 6 years/$120+mil or lose a good QB.

Also, without knowing the guaranteed portion, the $90mil is irrelevant. For example:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the financial details. He added Taylor's deal is fully guaranteed in 2016 but has a lot of "prove it" after that.

I would guess it's similar to the Kaep deal. Short-term guarantee and then year-to-year at an average-to-below starting QB annual cost.

Appearantly I'm in the minority in thinking that's a pretty good deal for the Bills. 15mil/year for a solid Qb is cheap IMO

Assuming it's like the Kaep deal where it turns into a year-to-year contract, what's the downside of the contract for the Bills? If he sucks, cut him. If he's good, you have a starting QB for 15mil/year.

Depends of the guarantee. If the guaranteed number is around $45m then that's essentially a 3 year contract with the remainder of the deal basically being team option years. That's not unreasonable.

No upper echelon QB is going to hit the market. I think as far as QB goes you just need one that's good enough. I think Taylor makes that grade.

I mean, if it were actually 6 years and $90mil, it's a risk to gamble with 6 years on Tyrod Taylor.

But this isn't the NBA or MLB, so it's obviously going to be structured in such a way, that it's not a risk for 6 years.

I remember the first time I saw him. He came in at the end of the LSU blowout of VT in Tiger Stadium. Little did I know he would be a future NFL QB.

And he looked awesome.

initial reports are that its structured to cost as little as 10m to get out of next year if this year flops.

early descriptions are exactly that.

if true hes paid as the cheapest starter in the league (essentially - fitz, and RG3 and rookie deals behind him).

and easy outs for the team?

big win for buff if true (big if this early though)
