Tv announcers now think an 8 pt game is a “multiple score” game

It’s not the first time I’ve heard it or I’d brush it off as a mistake. 8 pt game = 1 score game not oh well you have to get in the end zone twice to get 8 points. It’s can you tie the ball game needing possession of the football only once. It isn’t rocket science.

You’re talking about a one possession game
Being down 8 is worse than being down 7. If they want to refer to that as 2 scores I’m fine with it

They can refer to it as a 2 score game if they want to, but 8 points down in college is a 1 score game.

I don’t think so. It’s a one score game. There is no point in having another name for it. The whole point is you can tie the game without the other team possessing the ball. Extra point is a score. 1 possession-1 score game
= same thing

An 8 point deficit is a “one score game”. Example… Denver won eleven one score games in the 2025 season. Two of those eleven wins were by eight point margin. They could definitely be more precise by saying “one posession”, but it’s a common term.

Not as bad as during the Coastal Carolina vs Liberty game last night. Announcers were talking about how the NFL game kicked off an hour later and was going to finish before their game. Saying that college football needed to fix the pace of play so games weren’t taking 4 hours to finish.
One announcer said they need to get rid of the clock stoppage after first downs….apparently not realizing the NCAA changed that rule 3 years ago and now the clock only stops for first downs in the final 2 minutes of the half

When you’re “down by” a certain amount, that’s a measurement used to state how many points you need to score to get back EVEN with the opponent. Not win.
