if you had a good AD what conference would you be in?
CUSA. By AD I mean athletic department and athletic director specifically. They were supposed to have an athletic master plan finished by Thanksgiving. It's March 1 and they haven't released it.
Farmer said he was surprised when Middle Tennessee and FAU decided to leave. Surprised... He believed that all of the remaining Sun Belt schools would stick together. He didn't even put an effort to get a CUSA official on campus. It's a bad mixture of incompetence and laziness that's keeping us in a dying conference. Hudspeth has already expressed how annoyed he is that we keep getting passed up. When he leaves, we'll be screwed.

If you could jump to a decent or even good conference you may be able to keep himm a little longer.

Yup, but that's not looking likely.

Yall are having some serious issues in the AD right now. I know the RCAF was supposed to be a boon for the athletic department, but now it seems like baseball and softball want their own booster clubs because they don't like the way the RCAF is being managed. They feel like they aren't getting the money that is supposed to be earmarked to them. It's a mess.

I agree. I think you have a good coach and a program who is very young, but has potential to grow. I don't ever see ULL becoming what LSU is in football; however, other sports I see no barriers.
The Ath Department just needs to put the university in the best light moving forward to try and maximize revenues.

It's a huge mess. RCAF has actually helped to raise the budget but it's a shite show. RCAF is run so poorly. I graduated last May, it's almost been a year and I haven't received a single letter in the mail, phone call, email, or anything asking me to join. I'm a member of the Alumni Association, you would think they would at least try to solicit alumni, but nope.
Scott Farmer is the worst kind of AD. He's lazy, slow to get things done, and he's terrible with people. He comes off as arrogant when he's talking to you and he always has someone else to blame when something goes wrong.
Last year we were supposed to start construction on the baseball renovations but apparently the big donor got caught in a ponzi scheme or something. Well Farmer doesn't even start a fundraising campaign or let anyone know we didn't have the money and when the date comes for baseball construction to start he gives a sarcastic "If anyone wants to write me a check for $__ million, we'll start tomorrow." Hey jackfrick, it's your job to raise the money.
Then with the whole Lotief situation. There were thousands of dollars sitting in RCAF that had been set aside for softball. When Lotief went and asked for more money for assistants, Farmer wants to play hardball. It gets to a point where Lotief doesn't even want to deal with the guy and Dr. Savoie had to step in to get Lotief to stick around. It's pathetic when your university president has to clean up after the AD.
The problem is that Farmer kisses the right arse and the Good Ole Boy network isn't going to oust him. It's evident by how quickly Jay Walker threw Lotief under the bus while backing Farmer when everything that was coming out was pointing toward Farmer being a dick, again.
As far as baseball, Tony is much better at raising money than Farmer. His Diamond Club works pretty well and is the only way to make sure that he gets the funding necessary.

so basically tulane is just gonna join another version of c-usa with uconn added?
Which is still an upgrade over what CUSA is becoming.
This is what I don't get, why invite teams to join a conference if the teams in the conference are going to get pissed about them joining and leave.

When I graduated from LSU at the same time I was being asked to join the month before I actually walked. LSU's been after me.

It's amazing to me that ULL has some of the best softball attendance in the country with the highest season tickets prices in the country for that sport (even more than ULL baseball), and still is trying to low ball on assistant coach salaries.
I know softball isn't the most popular sport in the country, but ULL does it great. Baylor built their AD on the backs of womens sports in the early 2000s, so it can be done that way. It might sound dumb, but give Lotief whatever he wants.
It also might be time for Robe to move into a fundaising role in the athletic dept or in RCAF. IMO, he's lost his touch as a coach, though he is working in a tougher environment than when he built the program up.
I don't know enough about what's going on with basketball to comment. As far as women's basketball goes, it may be a lost cause.
Football situation is well documented, I don't need to comment on that.

Tulane is too Jewish to be in the catholic league.

Robichaux, I think, made a bad hire with Mike Trahan. Trahan was supposed to bring in talent and get the guys to hit. He did neither. Robe is a great pitching coach and he's a good head coach. He needs a guy to recruit and run a hitting system. Deggs has been here for part of last season and this season so far and there's already a turnaround.

The Catholic schools have been trying to leave the Big East for several years now.
As for CUSA, when you get raided, it becomes every man for himself.
TCU and Louisville had that attitude long before the realignment trend started...

Basically Tulane has escaped the Sun Belt and gotten back into CUSA.

Would ULL rather have Farmer or Tech's BVDV as AD? They both sound like shitty ADs

Little update on this:
LINK
Looks like the former Big East football schools are getting about $100 million to split between them, with most of it going to U Conn, Cinci, and S. Florida, but the new schools (including Tulane) getting some of the $$.
Any early guesses on names for the conference?

The AD at USA gives the exact same response when we inquire about an on-campus football stadium. I wonder if they trade notes.

We should just reclaim the Metro Conference name.
