You shouldnt and Tulane fans have accepted that. We just want a bowl game every year or two. That's what we would consider success. I can guarantee you if they went FCS attendance would fall and they would probably be lucky to get crowds like they have had recently.

Maybe you do, but going FCS is not in the best interest of Tulane athletics.

La Tech has more potential than Tulane in the long run.

Disagree, but that has literally nothing to do with this thread.

They got robbed in 1998.

Should've been the Greenies in the Fiesta Bowl instead of FSU. I don't think they would've beaten Fat Phil's Vols though.

They would have gotten murdered. Tulane's defense that year was pretty average against a weak schedule.

Last summer, in my sports marketing class at LSU, this was a topic of discussion.

Football is not a profit generating sport for Tulane (obviously) so building a new stadium will be the beginning of the university's plan to make football a profit generating sport.

It was also mentioned in discussion that they would also be willing to pay for a more recognizable HC. Being in New Orleans and a state with a lot of talent, it is assumed that they could be trying to become more attractive to bigger conferences, which would lead to more money for Tulane by itself.

How reasonable would it be to gut and totally re-do Tad Gormely? I know the CUSA told them no more conference games there, but could it be a viable option?

Are you saying it is?

The only benefit for Tulane to have a football team is because it provides them with away to gain name recognition.

with the huge crowds that tulane draws, that stadium would pay for itself in 110-115 years...tops.

Wouldn't that really defeat the purpose (at least partially) of building an on-campus stadium? Sure you'll get outdoor football, but one problem with the Dome is the lack of revenue it gives the school due to the state's contract with Benson. From what I understand, Benson gets at least a portion (if not all) of the profits from parking and concessions at dome events.

Since the city own Gormley, there would have to be some sort of revenue sharing there too. If they build on-capus, nothing has to be shared. And I have no doubt that attendance would improve if games were in a new, on-campus stadium at Tulane. Am I claiming sell-outs? No. But I think 20,000 is more than reasonable down the road.

where the announced attendance was 25,000 and I'll bet there weren't 5,000 actual people there.

they issue tickets to all the students, so those are counted as tickets "sold", because they are paid by tuition

2 guaranteed trips to Hawai'i every four years? At least that was before Hawai'i decided to bolt for the MWC next year.
