Are we really comparing the Dallas and New Orleans markets?

Not just the markets, but recruiting area, recent big success, and academics.

I hope the ACC steps in and picks up Tulane. I think ACC makes more sense.

That said, I would take PAC-12 if thats the only option.

Maybe PAC-12 picks up Rice and Tulane as a package.

It would be nice for Tulane to get into a better conference, but the obstacle is that does adding Tulane make the TV pie bigger so each team in the conference gets a bigger payout instead sharing the same sized pie with more teams.

Like others have said travel would blow for minor sports.

Tulane as a football-only member in the PAC and Sun Belt for everything else wouldn’t be too bad IMO

The main problem for the weenies is the size of their stadium. For any team in the PAC 12 to travel to N.O. & get such a small pay back, based on stadium revenue, makes no economic sense. The other sports' expenses vs revenue in such travel would be beyond stupid. As for "peaking at the right time"? One season is proof positive of "peaking"?

This would be like the Saints in the old NFC West. Geographically, it doesn’t make much sense. I guess if the money’s right, they do it.

At this point it would make the most sense to have a separate football organization and go to compact regional conferences for everything else.

There's no need to go from Lubbock to Morgantown for volleyball and tennis.

It’s gotta happen at some point. Just isn’t sustainable. There’s a reason the conferences were regional to begin with.

PAC is probably done and the remaining schools will probably go Mountain West
and they’ll take the PAC 12 name.

But here’s the deal though. So they filled their stadium once. So they won a NY6 bowl game over USC. So they had a great football year. So basketball is improving. Tulane is still a stigma to a major conference, where adding them means you’re no longer a major conference. Their addition to the Big East directly caused the split between the basketball schools and the football schools

But the exact opposite is happening. With the NCAA pulling back on governance and conferences taking over that role there is a push on for all-sports conferences. Following that in college hockey with the Summit taking over hockey fr the NCHC and the MAC taking over for the teams in that conference. Summit would also take over football from the MVFC.

This is brought up in every expansion thread that mentions Tulane. You do realize that outside of the SEC and major programs, that massive on-campus stadiums are not the norm?

Yulman was purposely built to be expandable. Washington St plays in a 32K stadium. SMU plays in a 32K stadium. Houston and Cincy just got into the Big 12 with 40K stadiums.

Agree. Unless you’re a team like LSU or Ohio State, 30-40k is plenty big enough for your average college football stadium.

Really it’s the other facilities that hold Tulane back more than anything. Fogleman arena is a dump and the Wilson center is a severely outdated athletics complex. Turchin is a decent baseball stadium but not sure that’s a factor

"Big enough"? Not from a revenue perspective. There is no way a team from Wash, Calif, Arizona can afford to travel to N.O. & get such a small check, that would put their trip into the red. "Expandable"? I know the area. Where exactly would Yulman expand to? The Up Town crowd raised holy hell about this stadium being built in its midst. They won't go along peacefully with more construction & then, in theory, bigger crowds.
