I guess I can believe it....SMU's stadium was around 32 mil and Auburn's new arena is 90 mil and seats 9000+. I'm sure Tulane's is gonna be around 4000-5000 so I guess that figure is about right
ETA: not including a fricking retractable roof in my estimate

Didn't he report this a few months back?
yes, I hope it is true

Also why would they waste money to add on a retractable roof?
dont see how or why they would do that, seems that would be too much $$

I would think that with this commitment at best they will not be in CUSA much longer or at worse the academic requiremnts will b e lossened a little. If this money committment is made they HAVE to win. It will be a ripple effect.

where would they go?

There has been a lot of talk of conference shake ups. I think being in New Olreans and with this commitment (on top of the new baseball stadium) of new facilities they may wiggle their way into a bigger conference. Who knows.

They can join Notre Dames conference.

I think a certain contingent of the people making financial decisions at Tulane are having a very hard time recognizing realities staring them in the face
I can't see any reason to believe that they will start to win at football in particular... clearly they are overshadowed in the state by LSU and they would need a truly special coach interested in staying at Tulane for a long time to become a financially viable/winning program

There are several schools in CUSA alone that would have a better case for being promoted to a better conference.

If the commitment is made. I do not think so.
You would have 1) New Orleans 2) Academics 3) Facilities ..
Of course this has to be made and they have to show that they can be competitive.

Houston has a much much better argument than Tulane. It's not even close.

Don't think that the Big 12 wants another texas team if they had their choice.
It is about expanding the market size. Houston does nothing in that area.

I'm really not sure how I feel about this. I do think that an on campus stadium would do wonders for student/alumni support. I also think that it wouldn't be as difficult to win (and I mean moderately within CUSA) at Tulane as some in this thread are arguing.

Tulane just doesn't have the fanbase. Being in New Orleans doesn't help when there are bigger schools in cities like Houston and Dallas. And some of those schools have built new arenas/stadiums or they are in the process of upgrading their facilities.
Tulane's academics are great, but we know it's not the first or second thing taken into consideration when these decisions are made.

Agreed. If they just allow jucos and add a P.E. major - that would help wonders.

I just can't see the Big 12 wanting Tulane right now... they don't have a passionate fan base that sells out venues... they don't bring in television money...

Agreed. It is market share, market share, market share then support.

3) Facilities
B12 has some small stadiums, but a 32,000 seat stadium isn't going to cut it.
