Either that or he's trying to make sure he gets fired.

I don't want Tua this year, I want Lawrence the next year. I know he has struggled some this year, but I feel he fits the mold of being an NFL passer better than anyone else in college by far.

More athletic, yea. Stronger arm, push. He labors to throw downfield when compared to nfl guys

While Tua doesn't have elite arm strength by any means, it is still better than McCoy's. Colt has really poor arm strength. Honestly, I think he'd be a pretty dang good QB if he was even average in that area.

Well that’s just wrong lol. He doesn’t have elite arm strength like Rodgers or Stafford but definitely doesn’t “labor to throw downfield”. He’s got middle of the road NFL arm strength combined with elite accuracy and anticipation.

accuracy

With guys running open as Jeudy Riggs and Waddle Andrew Hatch would be accurate

Herbert is the best option for a QB this year. I mean look at what he’s doing with terrible WR in his career

Open receivers don’t make you more accurate, just easier to complete a pass. Tua hits them in stride, perfect placement nearly every time. That’s something you can’t teach.

He’ll be the #1 QB off the board because he’s a better prospect than Herbert, and it’s not particularly close.

Such a lazy argument. Kid has made some incredible throws at Alabama. It's still important, and difficult, to hit an (really fast) open receiver in stride in a manner that doesn't necessitate him to slow down. This is a big reason you see so much YAC out of that group. Go watch the throw to Waddle against Tennessee or the throw to Irv Smith against LSU that he dropped in over Grant Delpit. to downplay his accuracy as a passer at this point in his career is just silly and willfully ignorant. Yea, those guys get open, but that has a lot to do with when he releases the football- ie timing and accuracy. He hits guys in stride 30 yards downfield with regularity on 9 routes, releasing the ball when the receiver hasn't even eaten up all the yardage on the corner yet.

Or Gruden may be just trying to get fired at this point. He's not going to resign and forego whatever money he is contractually owed, but he probably just wants to move on and start looking for his next gig. It could be a no lose situation. Start McCoy, which pisses off the owner and gets him run. Great! Or, start McCoy and win some games which makes the team/fans happy.

If this doesn't work, look for Gruden to start dragging one of the old Super Bowl trophies around the parking lot...

I'd argue it's pretty damn close, with Herbert arguably having a higher upside.

Herbert has really become very accurate this season and has elite arm strength to go along with a perfect pro-style body type and durability.

Tua has had some injuries and is pretty short with average arm strength.

Obviously Tua is very accurate and very athletic, but this is close.

ETA:

Depending on system, there are plenty of teams that would pick Herbert over Tua I bet.

He definitely does. Put on the tape. He has very good mechanics & gets the most out of his body, but he doesn’t even spin it as good as say Deshaun Watson, who had arm strength questions coming out.

Tua within 15 yards is pretty damn good. But he has some limits. I could be totally off but I am baffled at how he is in 1.1 consideration

Not really, this is the general consensus of most of the NFL scouts/execs. Not saying Herbert’s a bad QB at all, don’t get me wrong. In fact I’m not even saying Tua will have a better NFL career, you never know how that will go. I’m just saying that at this moment Tua is the clear choice based on all available data. He’ll be a top 5 pick, and a good chance at being #1 overall. Herbert will be a mid 1st round pick, possibly even slipping to late 1st round

Go watch some film of his deep balls on YouTube. It’s impressive when you actually watch his ability to get the ball downfield in a hurry.

I’ve watched plenty

Throwing it 25 yards to a streaking wide open WR and letting him run under it isn’t what I’m talking about

Just fire Gruden now
Even screwing up Haskins now
At this point, let him get his reps since he was drafted so high
