You guys ever thought that maybe Tua is better and has performed better in practice to this point and the dolphins are comfortable with his health?

It does feel a little strange after a big win but with the bye week, this feels planned. I thought they would have essentially given Tua a redshirt year but when he was active week 1 and their backup it should have told everyone that they were comfortable with his hip and health.

Lot of pearl clutching in here for Fitz, he is what he is. Fun story but he had 3 touchdowns and 6 turnovers in the Dolphins 3 losses, all games they could have won. Tua definitely raises their ceiling.

I think the plan was probably always to turn it over to Tua at the bye but they were probably also counting on Fitz going into the bye looking like shite (as he is prone to do several times throughout a season) so they can play up the "earning it on the field" angle.

It also makes sense for the dolphins to get a real good sample size of what Tua is with live reps as they enter an off-season that has a real chance to have a top 5 pick for the Texans

It’s highly unlikely they would draft another QB next draft, but it’s a lot more of an informed decision if you’ve seen 10 games of tape for Tua to be judged on. If it goes poorly and he looks lost like Rosen did his rookie year, I think it opens the door back open for potential QBs in the draft

Also I get the feeling they really feel like they will compete next season with one more offseason to get their roster upgraded to the level it needs to be, and if they believe that then it makes sense that they don’t want to go into that season with Tua having not played a full real game in almost 2 years. There’s gonna be some growing pains, and you want those to happen this year and not next year if you feel your roster is ahead of the curve

All I know is the world deserves Fitzy in the booth when he hangs up the cleats. He's a very funny guy with good wit and obviously very smart. I bet he'd be a blast to listen to calling a game.

Maybe Tua’s been good in practice.

Maybe the QB never gets touched in practice.

Maybe Tua gets broken when he starts playing real games...

I’d rather know either way in 2020 than finding out in 2021

I love Flores as a coach and I was excited to see what he could do with this team but the decision to take Tua over Herbert will cost him his job with the Dolphins. Hopefully Flores will catch on with a real franchise when he gets his next opportunity.

Apparently Fitzpatrick didn't see it coming at this point in the season.

quote:

I've been a starter, I've been benched all kinds of different ways, but this one just really more so than any of them ... this organization and what we've been through the last year and a half, this was kind of the first place other than Buffalo where I just felt fully committed and invested and felt like it was my team. To have that, I think that's a lot of the reason why I just ... my heart was so heavy yesterday. But that's the direction that the organization and I've just got to accept it."

I have still not seen a legit reason for this to happen.... the Dolphins are 3-3... with a chance for the playoffs. And you make this change right now?????

I think it's pretty evident that the Dolphins planned to start Tua after the bye week before the season even began. I heard Fitzpatrick had his entire family at the Jets game on Sunday. They knew it was going to be possibly his final NFL start of his career. If I were the Dolphins, I would have waited until the Chargers game to start Tua instead of inserting him into the lineup against the Rams and Cardinals who are fifth and sixth in the league respectively in sacks. But you're right. If Tua is healthy, they have to play him and see what they have with him.
