What a fricking descent by JA.

Not having sky hot control the race has done wonders to this year's tour. So wild

JA's sack is so big it just pulls him downhill. Holy hell.

Another incredible stage.

That descent from JA had me thinking to myself...

He’s there for the taking these next few but they can’t wait all day. They were never going to whack him with the descent today. Good race so far!
Here’s tomorrow. Looks uphill about all day!

The Colombians should have a big advantage on the Iseran

I will stick with my previous prediction that JA will lead to the base of Val Thorens. The climb is long but is it steep enough to break JA...

JA loses some time tomorrow, but he loses yellow on the last climb of the tour.

Pinot is not going to sweat on attacks tomorrow and his team may keep it close so GC takes the next few stages and he can scoop up bonuses as well.

I don’t think Kruis can pull off an attack that will damage the group. And tomorrow is not the day to do it anyway. Quite possibly the hardest climb awaits in stage 20. Regardless, he’s not strong enough to take it from Pinot or either Ineos boy.

Either way what a Tour. It’s what the sport has needed imo.
I’m absolutely hoping JA holds on but the experts have said for the last 3 weeks he’ll ‘crack’ at some point. He showed signs a few days ago. I think Mountain Top finishes are indeed his weakness as we saw a couple days ago. But it’s all strategy from here out. Any of the top 5-7 can win imo. He was a goddamn wizard on that descent today and it was masterful as were his TT and additional stage win.
Love the Wolfpack (my first post in the thread says as much) but they’ll need to find some big gun final week support for him next season for the TDF. They’ve been killin it in the smaller tours all season but big picture is TDF. Mas was frickin clutch today as were a few others. But they aren’t gonna be much help tomorrow and Saturday.
Whatever happens tomorrow and Saturday HUGE frickin chapeau to JA.

Also thanks for this thread again this year OP!

They need to make him crack on the HC tomorrow but no team is brave enough to risk their top domestiques that early.

Think he will keep the jersey onto the final stage

Mas will be his only real help in the next two stages. He will see attacks from everywhere though. It’s going to be too difficult for JA.

Do you listen to TheMove podcast w/ Lance and George?
Great insight and they are pretty damn spot on.. but lots of ‘get off my lawn’ as well
Lance HATES JA imo
Kinda partial to George bc he’s straight up and my nephew used to ride for his Trek developmental team some years back...but all in all still a great podcast, especially the next stage preview that follows

No, I haven’t heard their show. Always liked George as a rider. True teammate in grand tours and a solid classics rider.

Mas was 2nd overall in the Vuelta last year, he can string together a lot of good climbing days. He will be there to support Alaphilippe, but JA won’t have enough to deliver. Just too many strong teams up against them. They have an extremely balanced team and others brought basically all climbers.

The question is will their directors make the right choices, so far strategy in regards to the GC has been lacking.

Not really. They don’t see Alaphilippe as a real threat and are happy to let his team do the work. Some teams like Ineos have pitched in some. Movistar has attacked themselves all tour. I do think Astana losing Fuglsang takes one of the strongest teams out of the equation.

Pinot, Thomas, Bernal, Buchmann, Kruisijiwk Battle. Let’s see how close Alaphilippe can make it. I’d love for him to win, but I think he has almost no chance of doing so.
