Nobody wants rivers on that albatross of a contract if you're rebuilding.
I'd take the pick any day of the week.

They'll probably have rivers off the be cheap still and let Lou run with the starters to provide some spacing.

The Clippers have an interesting conundrum. They should have let Blake walk and do their best with "the process," but in LA they want to maintain any momentum they have over the lakers. Unfortunately, the peak of their franchise was a second round ceiling and now they're years behind the Lakers in the rebuilding process while only being somewhat committed to it.

They're keeping an asset though. It's somebody they can trade down the line. Right now, their ceiling is the 8th seed. And that's with everyone clicking. It's going to be a win 50 games, you get the 8 seed vs Warriors type of year.
They'll likely finish with 38-42 wins, 12th pick, then they have Griffin to dangle around next off season or the year after.

I don't give a shite about these other teams. We just got something out of nothing.

There is no such thing as a hard cap this ain't football. How can the hard cap be 125 and golden states salary is 137
It might restrict them for some reason but its not a hard cap. Bobby marks is an idiot

The tax apron, which they aren't allowed to exceed as described below, is set at just over $125M this year.
quote:
In other words, when a team is below the Apron and uses its Bi-Annual exception, receives a player who is signed-and-traded, or uses its Mid-Level exception to sign a player to a contract larger than allowed by the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception, the team becomes hard-capped at the Apron for the remainder of that season.
This eliminates any potential loophole where a team could first use one of these exceptions and subsequently add salary to go above the Apron, since the reverse -- adding salary first and then using the exception -- would be illegal.
If a team is hard-capped, it cannot exceed the Apron under any circumstance. If the team subsequently needs to sign a player (for example, to replace injured players) it must first create room under the Apron by waiving player(s) with non-guaranteed salary, waiving player(s) with guaranteed salary and utilizing the stretch provision, trading downward in salary, etc.
A team that is hard-capped can sign players to non-guaranteed contracts for training camp or the regular season, but must rid themselves of such players before their salary would take the team above the Apron. A team subject to the hard cap can also sign players to Rest-of-Season contracts during the season, as long as the salary pro-ration keeps the team below the Apron.

Let me get this straight
They are hard capping themselves to give Danilo fricking Gallinari twenty million dollars

Didn't say anything about the Redick and Johnson signings earlier in the thread, but I'm beyond excited for the upcoming Sixers season. Always trusted the process
Fultz/Redick/RoCo/Simmons/Embiid is going to be an exciting lineup when they all play, hopefully Embiid doesn't suffer any major injuries, I'm hoping he can play 60 games.
I really think we make the playoffs. The Eastern Conference took some hits and we got a lot better. If Fultz and Simmons are as good as advertised (they'll take rookie bumps for sure) we could probably fall somewhere between the 6-8 seeds. We won't contend for the title obviously, but now it's fine being late seeds because you're giving future stars playoff experience. The Sixers possible (but not guaranteed) rise could coincide nicely with the end of the GSW run in a few years.

Why you laughing, it's the truth. You have absolutely 0 assets in regards to young prospects and now 0 future 1st up until 2020.

So yes, there is a hard cap in the NBA.

Im laughing at the Lakers rebuild
Fans act like the team is stacked. None of them are great. No stars are coming

Meanwhile Paul George has been dying to be a Laker for two years. Westbrook has yet to sign his extension, and LeBron is playing mind games with Gilbert
