No, he's condensing the offseason and moving it so that starting in April, there are nfl events non stop until kickoff

So from feb-deep April we have nothing other than the combine in late march. Thumbs down to borrow a line.

For the hardcore draft fan, 3 day draft is no good. Weekday draft is even worse. It used to be from noon to the late evening on Saturday and Sunday. It was 2 full straight days of NFL football in April. Now it's a fricking turd, especially since the coverage has gotten worse.

This. Only good thing they did was shorten the time between picks.

For the fans it will blow compared to Miami, but I am somewhat intrigued by a snowy Super Bowl.

I thought that was a good idea as well but I don't know. What I do know is that the draft in its current form blows. It's like making a Zelda game for casual fans, you expand your reach but you piss of your hardcore fans.

They also just make the first pick in like 2 seconds. I remember in 02 the texans had signed David Carr and thus drafted him and they still took forever getting the pick in. I miss that unecessary build up.

Well now Berman ruins every pick beforehand anyway.

Yeah, ESPN used to have great coverage because Tom Jackson didnt suck balls and they didnt have a competing analyst for Mel kiper. (they have to have debate about everything I guess) People hate on kiper but he can talk individual prospects for hours and he is self made.

For NFL fans, the draft is often viewed as the halftime of the offseason, but the reality is it’s really not the midpoint of the offseason at all: It comes less than three months after the Super Bowl, but with more than four months left before the start of the regular season

Since when? I've been watching NFL my whole life and never knew the consensus was the draft was "the halftime of the offseason". I always think, football ends early Feb, starts back up in the fall. Seems simple enough.

i liked waking up at 12 and watching the draft on a saturday morning. Now it is on thursday friday saturday. frick YOU ROG

Yeah moving the draft to the weekday killed its appeal for me. I just don't even care because I have important shite to do. I'm not so much a fan that I'm going to stop my life school/work/priorities to watch a handful of overpaid babies get drafted to play a sport.

I can't believe people are arguing that Goodell didn't ruin the draft

Last year's first round was the highest watched draft in NFL history.

But no, let's not use facts. Those just obscure our biases.

It’s worth wondering whether the owners are also thinking that moving back the offseason could give them more breathing room if they expand the regular season to 18 games
Was this ever really going to happen? This is completely retarded. 18 games? Pretty soon the regular season will mean as much as it does in the NBA.

The NFL is a business. And it's making more money than ever. That's Roger's job. Deal with it.
