I know this is a what bothers you thread, but I went to the aTm Clemson game Saturday, and the TV timeout official had a digital clock on a stick to show how much time until the game would start again. I know it doesn't speed up the game at all, but it was really nice knowing exactly when he would get off the field instead of staring at him glumly until he trotted off. I'm not sure if this is just an aTm thing or just an ABC thing because I didn't notice it at the LSU Miami game.

Yea I didn't want to sound too dramatic but I agree.
LSU has a legendary reputation for its on campus game day experience and tailgating. Every season there's a small change or two that pushes the "free" tailgates further away, or does something to make it just that much harder to do etc.
Add up the 20-30 small changes that are sure to come over the next decade and it will pretty much irreversibly alter the game day experience. Family traditions will get snuffed out. Friends who've tailgated together since meeting in undergrad will decide to forego the fee it costs to rent a space from the only LSU-approved tailgate vendor and just meet at one of their houses instead.

It is a SEC thing. All SEC Games (home) will have these.

The talking heads who keep acting like the players are poor and go hungry.
The playoff soon to be 16 team tournament.
That LSU plays Florida every year so Bama can play Tennessee.

This makes me legitimately upset. Say what you will about stadium experience but tailgating is a chance to enjoy campus and old friends you may not be able to otherwise. To think the people in charge either don't care they're destroying it or don't realize they are is a travesty.

Yep. Trying to make college sports a business in the same way the NFL is instead of amateur sports. Along with that is what you’ve said above. Part of what makes the college events so special is the atmosphere and on campus activities, LSU being a prime example. It’s different than professional leagues and that’s ok! It makes it enjoyable and gives identity. Slowly stamping out or charging for every little thing has already hindered that some and will continue to do so if it’s unchecked.

Schollies don't pay for crab legs.
One or two big name players get caught doing crimes every year.
When I was a freshman the best miler in naia got caught passing a bad check. They made him join army. Vietnam

Sure they do. You get a monthly stipend and can buy crab legs if you want.

i would love to hear more of your thoughts on the issues that plague college sports

I hate that ESPN has conceded Thursday games to the NFL
I much rather watch some mid-level college football instead NFL

In the beautiful one sentence per paragraph format.

Yeah but it the schedule has been absolute arse since the NFL has started doing more Thursday night games.

Yeah, but the NFL has some blame here. They like the current model. There is no motivation to create and maintain a minor league system. Allow kids to enter the draft when they gain adult status, and the NFL would move resources to development and not rely on CFB.

That we pretend that football is not the only sport that matters in college. Basketball was once great but now it’s a broken product

Has nothing to do with how college football is run. They only decide when a player is eligible for a draft. Your analogy is blaming road for the driver crashing
